VB or HHI?

Hello, we are in the process of purchasing our first DVC contract. We were planning our next trip for August 2024, but our contract has 185 points that need to be used before then so we’re being ‘forced’ to go away (such a shame 😂). We were thinking to save the parks for our bigger August 2024 trip and maybe go to HHI or VB for a week in October or December.

What are the temps like at HHI during those months, would it be a bit cold?

Obviously it depends on availability, but any thoughts on which might be best for us - 2 adults and 2 children (boys 14 and 10)?

Generally what is availability like at the 7 month mark (or less)?

Thank you wise ones! x

Usually it’s pretty easy to get either at 7 months when you’re looking at going between late fall and early spring. The exception could be right around Thanksgiving and Christmas to New Years. We’ve been to Hilton Head in November and several times in January. We’ve also been to Vero several times in January. It’s definitely a bit cooler, but usually it’s warm enough to swim in the pools and walk on the beach. As far as which one is better they’re both a little different but you can’t go wrong with either.

I would recommend checking out the hhi lovers and owners thread for more information with activity guides in oct/dec.
We love going during both months for different things.
We have never been to vb though.

Thank you so much, that’s really helpful. As long as my children can swim in the pools, we’ll all be happy!

Thank you, I’ll go and check out those threads.

Have been to Vero several times in Oct/Nov and been fortunate the weather has cooperated each time. Plenty warm to be in the ocean. We love Vero and the vibe there. Never been to HHI but we have used more of our DVC points at Vero than any other resort.

I’ll just say, whichever you choose, go late October at the earliest - give hurricane season time to wind down.

Thank you. Due to school holidays (we’re in the UK) we have to go late October, so that sounds like it works well.

Thank you. I think we’re leaning towards VB as it’s easier to get to for us (we’re in the UK so would prefer a direct flight) and it should be a bit warmer. Just need our points now so we can check out availability.

We just got back from HHI. We have decided that October is our favorite month to visit. Perfect weather and low crowds! We were evacuated from Hurricane Matthew in 2016. That is very rare though. We did do a short trip in December that same year (to use up the points we were refunded). We lucked out and got good weather, but December is very iffy. Sort of like March! This week was very cold!

CMs I know who work there would agree with you. They all say it's the best time for a combination of great beach weather, but low crowds.
And regarding Hurricane Matthew, in the almost 20 years we've been HHI fanatics, I've never seen such devastation as I did after he arrived.

Late October is a beautiful time at Vero. Humidity is starting to come down. Still warm for the beach. The pool is heated. we've been there also for Thanksgiving in late November and we were fine in the pool.

Just as a warning because we haven't missed a Thanksgiving there in 17 years. Some years are fine for the pool, but some aren't. I remember one year when the ice crystals were bouncing off the porch at Tide Me Over. And in the second picture, it was so cold that that's steam rising from the pool (that year they kept the pool heated and open regardless of the weather).

My reply was about Vero. Your pics are of HHI. But yes, Vero can be a little nippy at Thanksgiving time, too.
