Vaxxed and traveling the next day. How bad of an idea?

Glad you got your vax *after* your trip. I was down for the count for 2 days and it took me 6 to feel back to normal. Wishing you a swift recovery.

In keeping with covid discussion must stay on track pertaining to travel, I am planning a J&J vaccine this Thursday. I have auto travel plans the next late morning. Is this foolish?

I know several folks my age who got this vax and had no reaction at all.

I'm hoping I can still do my travel plans, even if I'm a bit fatigued but I'm curious what others think. I'm 60, healthy, strong and rarely sick. I have a strong immune system and recover quickly.

Two experiences from our family - both J&J.

I am your age-ish. I believe I may have had Covid very early on. I got my vaccine around 2pm and felt fine when I went to bed that night. I did take Tylenol PM so I would sleep through anything unpleasant. When I woke the next morning, I was dog-tired so came home and took a 2 hour nap, and was fine after. So, serious hard core fatigue (maybe an issue if you're driving?) about 18 hours in.

My 18 year old got J&J last week. I believe she also had Covid early on (never tested). She was also fine for the first 8 hours but then got VERY sick. Almost 102 fever, chills, freezing cold, nauseous. She was in tears with a terrible headache. Her symptoms lasted until about the 22 hour mark. By 24 hours she was fine.

Almost everyone I know who got J&J was fine at 24 hours, but that 12-24 hour window can be very tough. Take care.

everyone reacts differently - I would not drive, but if someone else is driving, get the advil and the liquids and sleep in the car. My whole family got different reactions to each of the shots. Pfizer was the best, Moderna hurt and my J&J son felt bad for 4 hours. I just took a long nap the next day.

I wanted to give an update!

I moved things around, got my little trip in, got the vax and the following day had the fatigue/fever/chills. Sooo glad I didn't try to take my trip feeling this way. I'm in day two and starting to feel more normal now. I took the J&J vax.
Glad for the update & happy you got it!
Out of curiosity, would you say you would have been up to bringing your parents to the Dr. or no to that too?

I had no reaction to the shots. My 15yo niece had her second shot the day before leaving on an 1100 mile road trip. She spent the night at my house with no issues and was fine on the trip. She complained way more about her arm hurting after the first one. She had them put the second shot in her other, non dominant arm and didn't complain at all.
