varying prices at deluxe

I was comparing package prices in the disney website. All of the resorts in the moderate level come up the same price. However, when I went and checked the price with some of the deluxe hotels I found an almost $3000.00 difference from one to the next. Of the 3 I checked, AKL was the least expensive (actaully only a little more than the moderate), the contemporary was next, with the Beach Club being almost $3000.00 more than AKL. Why is that?

Just my uninformed opinions...

Location: AKL is the most removed resort from the other 3 parks. It's also newer and is building a constituency/base of returning guests. Contemporary is a monorail resort, well established, popular; it's prices will be higher. BC is located closest to Epcot and is fairly close to MGM. Very popular location for people who love Epcot and who love to swim (who could say no to Stormalong Bay pool?)

Demand. The more popular a resort with new/returning guests (as based on historical occupancy rates) the more Disney feels they can ask for a room in that resort.

Room location. Rooms with great views (fireworks, water view, etc.) are more popular and demand-able, so they go for more $$ than a standard view room.

Time of year. If you go during a peak or even regular season you could end up paying more for a more popular resort than if you book during a value time.

Also, the AKL & WL rooms are MUCH smaller than CR/Poly/GF and they only sleep 4, as compared to 5. the Epcot resort rooms mostly sleep 5 and are sized in between.

Another possibility is varying room categories. AKL has standard view, pool view, savannah view, deluxe pool view, deluxe savannah view. BC has standard & water view. If you were comparing AKL standard to BC water, the difference is very large. AKL savannah view (the most common & popular type of room) is probably closer in price to BC standard view, but still less (I think).

Even though the AKL has only bus transportation, it is very good. It's a great resort!

I agree-room size, amenities and location, location, location.

I think the MK resorts are even more expensive yet, aren't they?

When I booked our room Wilderness Lodge was the least expensive deluxe room. I

think they are smaller rooms though that sleep for whereas some others sleep 5. But, I am going to request a room with bunk beds anyway for the 4 of us.

It is the resort that I wanted to stay at anyway. AKL was significantly more expensive and seemed to me to be a worse location. I booked through Travelocity and it was about $100 per day less than through Disney.
