vapour cigarettes

Having flown out in Virgin last night it is in their new safety video that e-cigs are banned anywhere on board.

Never smoked so can't comment.

Many thanks for all your replies and helpful advice, I will pass it all on to my SIL. I know she will only smoke in the designated areas of the parks but she might have a sneaky puff on the plane! When she went to Spain last year she noticed a man puffing on one in his seat and blowing the vapour in his wifes bag. She has been a vapour fan for a few months now and feels it will help her quit for good in the future. Thanks again.

If it says you can't use them on a plane in the safety video, i hope you would abide by that instruction. If i saw someone having a tug on an e cig on a plane i would be complaining straight away.

Yeah I think the safety issues is to avoid false alarms and panic as a result. One or two people vaping in the cabin probably won't make a difference but if plenty are doing it that may become a problem. It must be genuinely as a precaution and not what has formerly been viewed as ignorance on the part of airlines.

It's just not worth the risk because of you get caught and found to be breaching safety regulations, that would be considered a serious offence.

Really?! I have no intention of breaking any rules but equally the fact is vaporisers offend peoples sensitivities rather than cashing any real problems ( smoke alarm issue aside). They contain no carcinogenic that would harm other flyers. Actually the alcohol they serve is far more lethal. The reason I wouldn't do this isn't because someone like you would complain, it's because children should not have to see anyone doing anything that looks like smoking. Even as a smoker my children never saw it or inhaled it and they don't see me with my vaporiser now either.

You do realise that the main reason they have no government support as an effective smoking cessation tool is because of all the tobacco tax they are losing as vaporisers gain popularity?

Probably depends on the smoke alarm - optical ones detect differently to ionising ones. There is still a "cloud" that is opaque (to both light and radiation), just for not very long before it evaporates to gas. I would imagine if you blew a thick cloud of vape straight into an optical detector it could well go off.

Personally, I used mine back in Oct 2012 all around the parks. Depends how good you are at "stealth vaping" (youtube it) :). Didn't dare attempt it on the flights though!

not that we know of.
I don't want to start a flame re:vaping is safe or not. But there is not enough long term data and studies to guarantee that it's harmless to the smoker or to the people in the vicinity. We'll now in 20 or 30 years from now
(probably less harmful than the real cigarette though)

No. It is a fact they do not contain carcinogenics full stop. Research is needed as to what any long term affects may be.

nothing from the TSA yet, but the "liquid rule".

Just to add that so far the USA do not have a clear policy regarding the use of e-cigs in public places.

Cities like New-York and Los Angeles have recently banned the use of those e-cigs in public places, restaurants, parks, and so on.

I know it's not your question, but as a former heavy smoker (I've been smoke free since 2007 after 20 years of 3 packs of Mar***** a day) I will kindly say that I would still use the designated "smoking area" even with an e-cig as a courtesy to other guests. ($.02 here :p )

I couldn't have written that better myself :thumbsup2

That "sneaky puff on the plane"if caught could potentially cause the flight to be met by federal authorities who could place you on the next flight back to the uk. US Airlines have banned the use of these on aircraft...failure to follow the "rules"is a big deal
