Hello northern friends, and weary travelers...

Any recommendations for dining in Vancouver (port area or within walking distance)? Not looking for 4 star as in the best food i ever ate category, just good local grub on a travel budget :) Recommendations in Stanley park are also welcome as we will be that way as well.

TIA!

travel budget :)
What's your travel budget? $20 per person USD? Otherwise I like unlimited travel budgets.

One idea.... Dim Sum. Some of the Chinese restaurants (Floata) offer this as a brunch. Kinda like an Oriental high tea experience as you sample through the foods.

If you have young Kids..... White Spot's pirate packs are a hit.

Robson street to the South offers a large selection of restaurants.

Cafe crepe. Many locations. Dine inside or grab one from the window.

Japadog! Especially if anyone in the family was a Psych fan that's a must. (They do have veggie dogs if that's a need for your family)

Another vote for Japadog - they are amazing. They have both food trucks and some locations have indoor seating.

Also, there is an underground mall that had a lot of eating places -- including fast food.

We had a fabulous breakfast at Scoozi's -- a Greek Tavern. Their deep dish breakfast bowls are amazing. http://www.scoozis.ca/Scoozis-Home.html

We did Cafe Crepe for breakfast the morning of embarkation. It was delicious!
We arrived 1 day prior to our cruise. For lunch we walked over to the underground food court across the street and had FatBurger (I understand this is a chain, but not one anywhere close to where we are from so it was new for us, and the burgers were really good.)

White Spot restaurants (several locations). Casual dining at an affordable price and excellent food. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Great suggestions thanks! As for budget - i know its all relative, but for dinner, we are pretty comfortable staying under $30US.

We ate at White Spot one night--first place we could find without a long wait and without doing any more walking as we were all tired and hungry. Typical casual sit down chain type restaurant.

The other night we ate at Cactus Club Café, the location by the Olympic Cauldron. We sat outside and got to do lots of people watching as there was an Anime Convention that weekend and lots of cosplayers were coming by to take pics by the Olympic Cauldron. It's pricy, but we were just sharing a bunch of appetizers and desserts. We were there during Happy Hour, so I got a couple of the happy hour drinks at a lower price. (And contrary to what you would think with the name of the restaurant, it is NOT Mexican food, lol.)

We LOVED Tap & Barrel http://tapandbarrel.com/. Quick walk down the street from the Pan Pacific / port. Great burgers and beer flights. Service was a little slow, but food made up for it.

For higher end, up the street about 2-3 blocks is Keg steakhouse. That was great, and best service we got the whole week there.

Scoozi's was great. That deep dish thing with the eggs was amazing. I'm an egg-eating vegetarian and I really loved mine. Probably one of my favorite places we ate in Vancouver. One of the cheapest, too. We actually ate dinner there and I had that egg thing. DH is a meat eater and he said his meatballs were fantastic. The service was great and it was small and cute.

We were not impressed with White Spot. It felt like a slightly nicer Denny's to me. We should have eaten at Cactus Club instead. We ate breakfast in our hotel (Blue Horizon) at the restaurant there called Abode and it was great. I wish we had eaten dinner there. We also ate at a really great breakfast place called Cora. Lots of fresh fruits and a huge menu. It was a little expensive, but we were all stuffed. We ate there embarkation morning and it held us well until we were on board and could eat lunch on the ship.

Its not a meal, but we had some AMAZING pastries at Thierry Chocolate and Pastry shop. Highly recommended for dessert. DH and I split a chocolate eclair and a strawberry pistachio tart. The latter being one of the most amazing things I put in my mouth our entire vacation (and yes, that includes going up against the chocolate souffle at Palo).

In Stanley Park we ate at the Tea House and it was good, but really too expensive for what we got. Service was really slow. It could have just been the day we went, but I wish we had gotten a quicker meal and spent more time sightseeing. It ate a large chunk of our afternoon.

Any vegetarian recommendations?

We are vegetarian (ovo lacto), so my answers remain the same. :) Cafe Crepe and Japadog's veggie dog options. http://www.japadog.com/menu_En.html

I love love LOVE the Oroshii. DS just gets a plain veggie dog with mustard on it. I ask "why don't we just go to the Yves cart up the street on Robson?" but he's a Psych fan and just has to get it from Japadog. By the way, there's an Yves dog cart on Robson. :) DH loves the Terimayo.

OH we went here once: http://thetempleton.ca/ The Yelp reviews about service when we went were a bit offputting. Once we got there we understood. It's a teensy tiny place. There's almost no waiting area. There was one cook and one staff member (possibly the owner). It was a diner. Smiling at the server (owner?) went a LONG way. Thanking them for having so many vegetarian options went further. :) Their vegan lentil loaf was awesome. There are meat items there, but their menu made us very happy.

There are a couple Breka Bakery&Cafes around, and they were tasty. 24 hours, too, from my experience!

There's a Thai place across from Sutton Place hotel that was delish.

We've stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel on both our Alaskan cruises so these restaurants are definitely in the area barely even five minutes and these are our top three:

Bellagio Cafe - have eaten here twice
Cactus Club Cafe - have eaten here twice
Mahony & Sons - tried if for the first time in August and the food was yummy (amazing fish and chips).

Vancouver has a lot of amazing options!

Enjoy

Steamworks Brew was a short walk from the cruise terminal. We had a seat with a harbor view, the food was great!

Another vote for Steamworks Pub - nice walk from the terminal and great pub grub - loved their pulled pork sandwiches!

Keep in mind that I have picky kids...

We ate at a White Spot while there - nothing too special, but it did give me a chance to have Poutine in Canada. And, good price, with stuff anyone would eat.

Our family ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory or whatever it was called, over in the Gastown district. It was good for our family - and while nothing special, I don't think it was too expensive and it had-stuff-everyone would eat.

As someone mentioned, there is also a food court underground near Canada Place (basically across the street), which is a cheap place with food for everyone. My memory is that the hours of operation there were more limited, though.

Now, that said, if you were by any chance interested in a higher-end place, Le Crocodile was one of the best places I've ever eaten at (I was in Vancouver for business). I wouldn't take my kids there, though - not sure they would appreciate it, and it would be a waste of money (and less ideal experience) with them.
