I'm trying to plan a trip with another family...
So, to stretch my points further, I'm thinking about getting 2 value studios - that would actually give us 2 extra days over standard view!
So, what's the deal?
Does Kidani have value accommodations? Or is it just Jambo?
Will we have to walk 2 miles each way if we take value? I'm not crazy about looking out at a parking lot - but in the end, I don't spend much time in the room and two extra days is two extra days!

The values are only at Jambo and are very limited in number. Values can be pool, parking lot or savannah view. View requests are not allowed for the value rooms.

Kidani only has standard view and savanna view.

All value views are at Jambo. The difference is the length of the room. You will not be guaranteed type of view, nor can you request it. Roughly 40% is pool view, 40% savanna view, 20% parking lot. They're all in the front part of Jambo, so not a terrible amount of walking. There's much more walking possible at Kidani.

Two value studios might be difficult to book, depending on specifics.

Someone will undoubtedly post more specifics, but those are the basics.

This could be good news, thanks!
My biggest concern for value was getting stuck all the way out on one of the arms at Kidani.
If I own at Kidani, am I allowed to book Jambo at the 11 month window? If so, are m chances pretty good if I call immediately at 11 months to book the last 9 days of August (2113)?

The Value rooms were created when odd size space was left over when the Jambo AKL rooms were rebuilt as AKV rooms.

As far as I know, all of AKL is considered one resort, so it doesn't matter if you own Kidani or Jambo, you can book either at 11 months. I don't know what your exact chances are, but I think you have a pretty good chance at 11 months!

Jambo House and Kidani Village are just buildings within Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas.

YAY!!
I'm getting really excited about this!
My friend and I have gone together with our daughters a few times now...
Her husband doesn't like crowds or lines and my DH needed a new knee and hated using a scooter.
Well, now my DH has a new knee and her DH is saying he'd like to go with us as long as he can spend time at the pool! Our families get along really well together and our girls are BFFs - so excited!
Is the pool at Jambo as nice as the Kidani pool?

The only time the location of the actual unit your ownership interest in for matters is if that unit is removed from the program completely.

Our ownership interest at AKV is in Jambo House. If Jambo House burned down and Disney decided not to rebuild it, our ownership interest there would cease to exist. If that was our only home resort, we would no longer be members. Even though Jambo House would be removed, those members that hold ownership interests in Kidani Village would continue to be members.

Well since you asked who knows I doubt Disney will extend it to 2113 after all the contracts only are 50 years to start with.:rotfl2:

On-line booking opens before the phone lines but still two rooms might be possible. The rooms may not be close to eachother.

lol....i'm obviously planning on living a very long life!
It's fine of the rooms are not next to each other - we'll meet up in the lounge!

Obviously you mean 2013 and be aware that when booking exactly 11 months out you can only do 7 nights; you then need to call a couple days later and add the other two. Any owner at AKL can book rooms in either building with the 11 month window.

Also, there are 10 lock-off value studios (which are taken if someone books a 2BR) and 8 (or is it 6?) dedicated value studios. If you are looking to book them, you will really need to be looking right at your 11-month window.

Good luck! I think the value rooms are DVC's best kept secret;).

Thanks - I'll be at the computer or on the phone (whichever is faster) at the first opening.
Do you recommend "walking" the ressie? I've heard of people doing this, but not entirely sure how it works...

My sister owns at AKV, and booked 2 value studios at the 11 month mark for the week before President's Week for 2013. She forgot to call right at 9:00, but was able to still book the 2 studios later in the morning of her 11 month mark.

Prior to the conversion, the 5th floor of the AKL hotel had both standard size rooms and deluxe (larger) rooms. The deluxe rooms were about 3 feet longer and had a day bed. They were located along the Kudu and Zebra trails on the 5th floor and along both sides of the lobby on the 6th floor. The standard rooms on the 5th floor were located along the Giraffe and Ostrich trails at the front of the building.

When they converted most of the 5th floor and all of the 6th floor to DVC, the shorter (standard) rooms became Value villas, the larger (deluxe) rooms became Standard View, Savanna View and Concierge villas.

Not all of the standard size rooms on the 5th floor were converted. AKV ended up taking only 6 of the hotel rooms facing the parking lot. Those 6 hotel rooms became two 2BR lockoffs. The rest of the Value villas face either the Sunset Savanna or the pool area.

Hi
I am confused
I have a small point contract at AKV and I thought my interest was in the AKV and not location ( Kidani or Jambo) specific. How do you know which part of AKV your ownership is ?
I hope my question makes sense.
Thanks
Mel

If it is absolutely critical that you get those specific rooms for those specific days, then you might consider walking the reservation. It's not hard to do and may be worth your time. It may even be a little easier with online booking, since you can sort of look into the future a few days before your arrival date.

It will be in your contract. It may not mention Kidani or Jambo specifically but it will list a Unit number. If that number is 56 or lower, you own part of a Unit in Jambo House. If the Unit number is higher than 56, you own part of a Unit in Kidani Village.

For the purposes of booking a stay at AKV, you can book a room in either building regardless of where you Unit is located. As erionm said, the physical location of the Unit you purchased matters only if some sort of disaster occurs and your Unit becomes uninhabitable and Disney opts not to repair it. You and the other owners of that Unit would receive the insurance proceeds and would no longer have the use of the points tied to that Unit.

ETA: I believe this is also explained in your contract so when you take it out to look up your Unit number, you should also find some text explaining what happens if your Unit is damaged to the extent that the villas contained within it cannot be occupied.
