Value of a really small contract?

Hi gang! I wondering what value a really small contract would have? Say, like for 25 points. On a year-by-year basis that 25 points don't get ya much but I guess with banking and borrowing it could get ya as much as 75 points in any given 3rd year. I'm wondering if that's really worth the trouble of managing the points or just going with a 50 or 75 point contract. Thoughts anyone?

For us, I'd see no value in purchasing "just" a 25 point contract. We have purchased add-on contracts for 25 points - to do just that, add on to our membership, and because we can "will" even contracts to our children. Others may disagree, and find that a 25 point resale (if they are even out there, I haven't seen any myself) will do the trick for an every third year studio trip. JMHO

Thanks for the reply DeeCee. Currently I am waiting to close ona 150 point SSR contract. This other contract is the one just posted by TTS for 25 points at BCV. I'd like to have a presence at BCV but am not really sure if 25 points does any good.

I don't see a real problem with the small point contract. It's not difficult at all to manage points in general and a very small number of points would be easier still.

Good luck.

ETA:
Just read your response to the previous poster. If the 25 points is an add-on just to get into BCV occasionally, better still.

as i posted elsewhere, with closing costs, i believe that contract would run $115 a point.

if you're not in a huge hurry, just wait till you're in the system and request an add-on through disney for the exact number of points you calculate would be useful to you...with no closing costs.

If you anticipate needing more than 25 additional points down the road, then I would also be inclined to check out with DVC for purchasing a larger amount and perhaps financing over time.

I have a 25 point contract. Just bought it on resale. We felt at this point it was all we needed. We know we will add on... but it got us into DVC at a price we could afford it was around 2500. (so expensive for OKW, but cheaper then buying 150 at SSR)

Our contract came loaded so we are getting to use it NOW.. and we will have enough for a studio at OKW every other year until we decide to buy more pointss...

Why does this work for us... cause we have another 3bed/3bath timeshare... we can spend a week at our Timeshare them Sunday-Thursday night at OKW(every other year) ... 2 weeks vacation!

That sounds like an excellent plan for you! Congratulations!

If you have 4 people and go for 7 nights offsite + 5 at DVC. Just buying 4 APs will save you $400 a year. That's about 16% return on the purchase price of $2500, plus you get 5 nights too. Not a bad "investment".

it's priceless;) yes, they're out there and they re-sell @ the speed of light for top $$ because:

1) they get your foot in the door

2) enable you to add-on @ the resort you really want to own and have the 11 month booking window

3) afford an opportunity to reasonably avoid going into debt for the purchase(s)

4) current ability to transfer points into the small account (currently 1 per member per year) w/o the worry of using a larger number of points each year (and paying dues on same).

5) able to bank and borrow over a 3 year span;

4) having sep. add ons (at different resorts) allows the eventual sale of individual contracts (or all of them) if the next best thing catches your fancy or even the easier gifting of sep. contracts to your heirs.

have i mentioned i'm a fan of them?;)

I also just bought a 25 pt contract at OKW and the way I figured it, with closing costs is about $100 a point. That's about 3 nights a year in a studio, which is fine for us to get started (we actually do enjoy moving around), we do have plans to add on hopefully by the end of this year.

Someone mentioned that why not buy from Disney, and take out a loan. I don't know about you but If I am going to own something... I am going to really own something (not the bank). I prefer having paid $2500 cash and straight out owning 25 pts then buying 150 pts from Disney with 12% interest and paying on it over the next ten years.

So is it worth it? Absolutely.

If you buy from Disney you have to buy 50 points to get financing.

We "got our feet wet" with a 70 pt OKW resale. At least we thought, we went ahead and jumped in the river though before it closed with 150BCV points:banana:

Up until recently we used it every other year by banking and went to either VWL or OKW for Thanksgiving every other year. I'm not certain what we'll do with those points now because we've decided not to go for Thanksgiving anymore. The first time we went was 2001 and crowds were way down after 9/11. But now its a busy holiday. We may try to figure out a way to take all of our kids down on another Summer trip before school starts back after our June trip.
