From today's E-mail update:
Valet parking perk
Remember that Members enjoy complimentary valet parking at Disney's Beach Club Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Resort and Disney's Wilderness Lodge, and you don't have to be staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel to enjoy this perk. Please note that parking for the purposes of visiting a Theme Park isn't permitted at any Walt Disney World Resort hotel.

I thought you did have to be staying at a DVC resort to get that perk. Was I misinformed?

Yes, this is a perk that does not require you to be staying at a DVC resort. That is why they are supposed to require you to show your blue member card (and I have usually been asked to show it) as opposed to a room key or parking pass.

We also used it at VWL when staying offsite and were asked to show the membership card. I just have to eat at Artist Point!

We eat at the resorts a LOT and i either show my Disney Dining Experience card or my DVC card ( if it's Boardwalk) and park for free. I've never been asked for a room key

I'm a huge user of valet parking. We valet park at least three times per day, at a couple different resorts, for the past several years.

We have NEVER been asked for a Membership Card or room key.
I think twice I had to say "We're DVC", and that was plenty good. :smokin:

We've only had trouble using the free valet parking once....and it was at the BW when we were staying on points at the BWV! They charged our room for the valet parking fee and the cm at the desk tried to tell me that members don't get free valet parking. I had to ask him to double check with a supervisor to get the charge removed.

Otherwise we've just told them we're DVC members or shown our card....I'm pretty sure whenever we've had a card handy we've shown it without being asked, but with 3 kids and our complete lack of organization I'm pretty sure there were a few times we didn't have it.

So does DDE also get us free valet parking at the other resorts? Wonderful if it does!

We've never had to show a card or anything. We've always just mentioned that we're DVC members and that has been sufficient. Both while staying at a resort and not staying.

Yes, but you are supposed to show a dining receipt from that resort, along with the DDE card.

Ah, so you show it when you pick the car up? Makes sense. Since I've never used valet parking with a fee I don't know how that works. We generally don't go to other resorts for anything but dining anyway. I'll file that information away and hopefully remember to keep my receipt handy...

It also gets you a few free hours parking (3 I think) at the parks, if you eat at a DDE restuarant there.

Not sure how that would work since you have to pay on your way in and they would have no way of checking to see that you aren't still there later. Do you bring your receipt back and they refund your parking fee?

Yes, you have to bring your meal receipt and parking receipt to Guest Services or someplace and they refund you... For some reason I was thinking that you had to do this at the Guest Services outside the park and it was only for Dinner, but I could be wrong.

I have never used valet parking and we are newbies. What is the usual charge for valet parking? How much of a tip do you give? Do you give a tip when you drop off your car and when they bring it?

It's my understanding (and therfore also my practice) that expectations are to only tip on the way out. I do know many tip both ways.
