Thursday 20th February 2002 [day before the flights]

Managed to get into work on time today for the first time this week or is it this year, the people that work for me gave me a hard time and begged me not to mention Orlando today. Had a lot to get through and had to ensure I left by 4.30pm.
Somehow got through the day, even took a dinner break to eat today [well I wanted a beer tonight]. At 4.15 my boss calls me in, oh god no not another 2 hour meeting. No can I help him with some information on Orlando as he is going on a solo trip in April. No problem out by 4.45 and down the M4 motorway at the speed of sound, managed to get home by 5.40 not bad for a 35 drive in rush hour.
Quickly showered and changed, set all the security switches and then strained myself carrying my family’s luggage downstairs and into a once spacious car. Only three bags to check in [this is a record for us] and one for the overnight at the airport hotel.

Left home at 6.45pm drove to get fuel for the car and then returned home at 7pm, yes we had left the lights on in the garage and shower room. While Val ran in to turn them off and say goodbye to the cat again, I sat moaning in the car to the boys. Finally at 7.15pm managed to reach the point of no return i.e. junction 16 of the M4 motorway, 80 miles an hour, if someone needs to go back home they had better be prepared to jump.
Arrived at Le Meridian hotel at Heathrow about 8.15pm, it is really nice [we stayed at the LM at Gatwick airport in November, and this one is as nice], I found the only available parking space, which meant we could lock the car up and not leave the keys at the hotel, so I wont panic that they will lose them. Actually found it by luck it was so dark had to get out of the car to make sure it was a parking space.

Checked in, I was then informed that the family room we booked was not available and they had given us two doubles opposite each other at no extra cost. [Run this past me again the room we booked that you let go is not available, and we should be grateful that you are charging us any more!! Right. Let us leave the UK and get to the USA to experience good service]. After finding the rooms, which were excellent I suggested to Val that she took a bath in her room and I would take the boys to the bar so she can chill out, [I should mention at this point that Val and Scott are very nervous flyers and the last thing she wanted was my boys fighting. Val was also worried about not having direct flights, this is the first time she is flying to Orlando from LHR and is worried about taking off and landing one extra time], such a loving and understanding husband to force myself down to the bar. lol. While in the bar, we all wrote out Val’s birthday cards and put the money inside them that we were giving her. She had already got her present in the UK, so we gave her $300 between us to get something special at WDW.

Somehow it took us over 2 hours to do this in the bar lol, in the end the boys were begging me to get back to the room, well Scott actually managed to escape earlier.

Brought Val a Long island Iced tea cocktail to take back to the room, an excuse for me to get another beer lol.

After eating the food we brought with us [sandwiches from M+S] we finally got to bed. I shared one of the rooms with Glenn, he was so excited, not so at 3.15am tomorrow, when we have to get up to get our flight.

Tomorrow Flying CRB and E-Ride

I love the bar EXCUSE! LOL. I think it is so wonderful to read about people overseas planning their trips to disneyworld. You have a great sense of humor and I look forward to more of your trip reports.

It's about time you posted this...I was beginning to think you had made it all up and you weren't really going!

An eventful start to the holiday, then?

More please!

I must admit I like reading peoples travelling and first days at WDW.

The sense of humour gets me into so much trouble, when I was working in the USA last year I think people thought I was a mad Brit, but by the time I left they were great to me, even had the people using British slang and sayings sometimes with a London accent like mine lol!

truly, I have done my best lol When I got this leave agreed I lied and told my boss I had prepared a presentation I have to do next week, so I am madly writing trip reports and credit management reports at the same time. And guess what my presentation slot has been brought forward to run through tomorrow with our directors and live on tuesday help.

Hope I don't get them mixed up on powerpoint and end up presenting Vals birthday trip to them and post our group debtor report to the DIS lol
