Honestly, if that's a trend for AARP to focus on the lowest age demographic, and I were a reader, I would probably give up my subscription. Do very many people start reading that at 50? Are they trying to get younger readers? I'm close to 50 and senior citizen issues are not really my interest yet. Seeing an actress I like and relate to as being "my age" on the cover, who looks great btw, won't change that.

From what another DISer posted a while back, there are many discounts that an AARP member can get, starting at 50 years old. In this economy, I would think one can use all the discounts they can get.

Also, I think they are trying to reach more baby boomers. Who would have ever looked into AARP at 50?

I started my AARP subscription at age 50 mainly for the discounts, but I found out that the magazine that comes with the sub is full of valuable info on travel, health, etc.

However, I have to agree with disykat on this. I feel the same was with Seventeen Magazine with 20-some year old girls on the cover.
