I have never given teachers valentines gifts before... I do Christmas, appreciation week, and end of the year gifts, even birthdays if I know them, but it never occurred to me to get them Valentine's Day gifts. A friend today acted like I was crazy and that everyone sends gifts, so I've been polling friends and sure enough, they all get them a little something, mostly candy.

So now I need quick, budget ideas for 6 teachers (2 main teachers for each of my kids). I hate to get them candy since I'm sure they get a ton of that. I usually give gift cards for everything else, but I really don't want to spend more than $5 each, preferably even less than that.

Any other ideas? Teachers, what have you been given in the past that you like?
Thanks for any ideas!

At Target in the $1 section they have those little potted rose seeds.

Hi! First Grade Teacher here...I've been teaching for over 20 years, & yes, you are correct. I've seen A LOT of candy cross my desk on Valentine's Day.

I can tell you what I WOULD like. Last week, in Target, I saw a Valentine box of Pillsbury (or maybe it was Betty Crocker?) sugar cookie mix. I'd love that! I would use it to bake some cookies with my own kids one afternoon. I also saw a Valentine brownie mix I think. Those boxes were only about $2.00 each. You could even throw in a cute Valentine spatula for $1.00 each!

Oh, if you don't like the baking idea.... I saw some heart-shaped Post-It notepads. Those would also be great to have!

I think you are very sweet to ask! :teacher:

daisyduck- thanks for the suggestions.. I will be headed to Target tomorrow to find some cookie and brownie mix for my dd teacher. such a cute idea :thumbsup2

Cute ideas, I like each of them! I also saw something on pintrest right after I posted the question, a bottle of water with a card/tag attached with "love juice" or something like that... they tied a pixie stick to it, but I could use one of those drink mixes instead. One or two of those with either the rose seeds and/or note pads in a gift bag would be really cute I think, and cheaper than a $5 gift card... not to mention I'm always embarassed to give a gift card with so little.
Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming!

I actually had 2 gifts in my cart at Target and then took them out. I had my enough moment. I do holiday, last day, teacher appreciation and their birthday. I decided I was giving them more gifts than my spouse was getting! So I just said no. My 2youngest will make a card for their teachers. (they both have 2each)

I got this idea from eighteen25 blog. I plan on giving my children's teachers one of those clip on air fresheners from Bath and Bodyworks for the car. With a cute printable that says your scent sational.

CUTE...CUTE...CUTE! I think I'll use that with lotions for the girls at work!

I saw this on Pinterest and am thinking about giving these. I have seen the reusable cups at Shopko and Starbucks. Plus you can purchase a packet of drink mix at the Dollar Store/Safeway/Walmart, etc and split it between the cups.

DD11 is just giving her main teacher a Valentine from the same box her classmates are getting, and a bag of a few Hershey's kisses like all the kids are getting. Like a PP, I've had enough of the constant gift-giving. I think the gift giving thing has gone overboard, not just with teachers (who I appreciate, like I appreciate many people in many professions), but with everyone in general.

As a teacher I would LOVE this! But honestly my favorite Valentine is still the homemade hand written one from a student

My kids also give their teacher the same that they are giving the rest of the class. Also, there was a thread at Christmastime about all the teacher gifts that either get donated or thrown in the garbage as they do not need 24 mugs per year (for example). It's the thought that counts and a simple valentine card shows your appreciation.:lovestruc

I teach first grade and will get chocolate and cards, but nothing other than that. It's very sweet of you to want to do something, but a really nice note goes a lot further.

Fold a piece of paper in half. Draw a heart on the front. Inside write "Happy Valentine's Day Mrs. EnglishTeacha! From, Student."

Seriously, teachers don't need a Valentine present. If you want to get us something, we'd love pencils, pens, post-it notes, or new markers or crayons. It's this point in the year when our supplies start running low! I'd love some new pens. At this point I'm using whatever I can find in the back of my drawer that writes.

Like I said in the op, it never occurred to me before and my oldest is in 5th grade, but this one friend literally said I was crazy for not doing it... but I was sure teachers didn't want more chocolate and I didn't want to spend too much on gift cards.

Anyway, thanks for all the ideas, they pointed me in the right direction, and I just bought them: a little pad of sticky notes with very pretty print/decorations that are attached to a little mini-clipboard (just a tad bigger than the post-it notes) that is also decorated... they were $1 at Michaels. So much cheaper than even a $5 gift card and hopefully the teachers will get some use out of it. Thanks again for all the ideas!

I am a third grade teacher. Every year I get boxes/bags of chocolates. I have also received a loaf of chocolate brownie bread from the Great Harvest Bread Company and a $5 gift card to Graeter's that says for a "sweet teacher." For the last few years I have picked up a bouquet of fresh mixed flowers from the grocery store for ds's pre-school teacher.

I certainly do not expect anything for Valentine's Day, but it is sweet to be remembered, and the kids are always SOOOO excited to give me the gift. That is the best part. :lovestruc

Candy is certainly the usual go to for teachers. I baked a variety of cookies and sent them with her to give to her teacher. I also attached a little note with it!
