Do any of you have one of the smaller upright vacuums for your hardwood floors?

Our home is about 50 years old, I have been sweeping with a broom and then sucking it up into the vacuum.

We've lived here for a month and I have 2 young children and a dog and I really need one of those lightweight vacuum thingys!

We have a Hoover windtunnel that I love for my carpets, but I want something specifically for the wood. We cannot turn off the brush part on the Hoover.

TIA!!

My upright hoover has a hose on the side. When I get to the hardwood, I just flip the switch on the base and use the hose attachment. I haven't used my broom in so long, I don't even know if I still have one. :hyper:

I have an Orreck XL that works really well on carpet and hardwood floors. You don't have to change tools, or change any settings. Very lightweight, and easy to use.

I have a Miehle canister vacuum. It is pretty much designed for hardwood floors. None of the hard vacuum parts ever touch the floors, the wheels are rubber and swivel, and the brushes are all horse hair. I have an attachment that I use on my area rugs. Very nice vacuum, very quiet, and very pricey!

I bought my Oreck when I had hardwood floors and needed a new vacuum. It works great and does not blow the stuff out the back like most vacuums do. But it costs about $400.

I have a Dirt Devil cordless sweeper vac that you use with Swiffer clothes. I use it on my tile floors and it is really great and doesn't cost that much. It's about $50.

we just had new hard wood installed! and have a very shedding non stop yellow lab!
I have a dirt devil swivl stick and then the best thing to use is a swiffer!
For real! I will use the vacuum and then run the dry swiffer and still get some dog hair!

I second the Oreck XL>. I go from hardwood to carpet with it, no problem.

Thanks for your suggestions!!

I sweep at least twice a day, sometimes 3. I am sure I will continue that routine, kids and dog track in dirt, mulch, etc!!

3X a day? You don't need a new vacumn, you need a maid!!!
When do you get time to play with your children? Gosh, I have
2 cats, one child(which usually tranlates to 2 or 3 at some point
in the day) and one very dusty, dirty husband(chimney rebuilder).
I sweep once a day-once. I damp mop with vinegar 2X weekly
to keep down the dander and dirt. I use a regular broom or my
vacumn-a cheap, rebuilt dirt devil. Clean enough here. Do you
sleep? LOL!

Don't worry, it's mostly just the kitchen that I sweep, and it takes about 1 minute! :p

My house is not really clean, this is just the part that drives me crazy!!

You want a Dyson. They advertise the it never loses suction and so far, mine hasn't. It is the only vac that I've ever used that doesn't just blow dirt around on hardwood. I'd never own another type of vacuum ever again.

I have the Hoover floormate...I'm happy with it.

I vaccuum once a week, and wash the floors maybe once a month.

I just don't have time to do it more then that...daily? yeah right!
