You didn't say who will be going. If I were traveling with children, I would stay in the USA. I love Hawaii. We have been four times. There is so much to do and see. I love Hawaiian history, the scenery, the beaches, mountains, volcanos, hikes. It really has a lot to offer and each island is different from the next.

oh I am sorry about that it will be and DH is all.Unless some of our friends come with us which would be all adults.

I suggest Australia and New Zealand. Absolutely wonderful places to visit; lots of things to see and do, and the friendliest, most amazing people live there.

We loved China, and I hated Italy. What is with the butt pinching?????

I second New Zealand, though. Lovely country and people!

I, too, would love to travel overseas, but If you haven't seen much of your own country, I'd stick closer to home. There are so many wonderful, beautiful places in the U.S. it would take a lifetime to see them all. I'm antsy for my kids to get old enough to take on an extended camping/road trip out west. I LOVE our National Parks and can't wait to show them to my kids! There are also great cities all over if that is more your thing. Whatever you decide, have fun. :thumbsup2

The best vacation DH & I ever had was our 20th anniversary in London. :cool1: We stayed in-town at a B&B--totally unlike a swanky American B&B, this was more like staying at your aunt's house. I *loved* it!(BE aware--the sun comes up at 4am in the summer :smooth: ) We were right in the middle of things, a few blocks from Victoria Station, so we could access the tube easily. We refused to take a tour, opting instead to make up our own. It was fabulous! We love old stuff, and you can't get older or stuffier than London:joker: We were able to spend as much time as we liked looking at the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, we ate lunch in the Crypt at St. Paul's Catherdral, made two trips to the British Museum and still only saw 40% of it! We rode a double decker bus, shopped at Harrods, and ate fish & chips in a real pub next to the bus station.

And then, on a whim, we took a high-speed train out to Bath to see some Roman ruins and then on to Cardiff, Wales, where my family is from. It was a whirlwind trip--6days--and I wouldn't have tried it with the kids. But it was so much fun, just doing what we wanted when we wanted and for as long as we wanted. I just loved meeting the different people, talking to them on the train, in the stations, eating breakfast in the basement of the townhouse we stayed in. Not a swanky vacation, but if you read up on it and plan what you want to do it could be a lot of fun for ya. :thumbsup2

Hawaii is great! If you go, choose at least two islands to visit as they are very different. I love the Big Island and Kaui'i.

We have plans to go to China next year via Hong Kong and then on to Japan. You can always sneak in a Disney trip along the way ;). I heard the Disneyland-HK can be done in just one day. Japan is also very nice (but *very* expensive) and the people are very friendly :).

If you leave the continental US you would be looking at at least an 8 hour flight to places like Hawaii, London and Paris. I think my flight to Japan was over 12 hours from Chicago.
