Vacation package with Airfare?

I wasn't sure where to ask this at but hopefully this will be
a good place.

I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten a Vacation Package that
included airfare for a set amount of time (like 4 nights/5days) but wanted to stay longer than 5 days. Could you extend the trip lenght outside of the package, get different return flight and still pay the same for the package?
Ifcourse I would be paying for the extra days but would not be at the same
hotel that the original package was offered. I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say. I appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Yes, I just did it recently and only paid the difference for the extra nights of hotel rooms. I was able to get them at the "special" rate.
