I need help..in so many ways but lets start with when to travel

I am signed up for the princess half on sunday March 7th.

my thoughts would be to fly in on the friday..easy day saturday half on sunday and stay and vacation till the following saturday BUT I am really afraid that the crowds will be bad that week with leading into canadian march break?

So fir crowd sake I would thin fly in the week before end with the half and leave day after? Is that a bad idea? Will i be too tired from vacationing to finish half on time? are crowds any different those two weeks in arch?

I a travelling with dd 5 ds 3 and grupy dh. I a walker and have never done a race so the pace worries me. If I am there leading up to half I won't have trained for a week????

I appreciate any help....really really appreciate your insight. Also do buses run early on half marathon day? thinking of staying at AKL bad idea??

If you are going to be walking around the parks for a week you will be training!!!!!
I would rather race first then holiday, but it would depend on how long I had to travel for and if I needed a rest day first.

race then vacation! you dont realize how much you walk around the parks. even though I run regularly, I'm tired and sore after a few days in the parks!

I agree with get the race out of the way then relax and enjoy your vacation. I don't know what the crowds are like for either the week before or after the Princess, I just think you'll be able to have more fun on your vacation if you are not worrying about your eating, drinking and overdoing it on your feet for the whole week.

Good luck,
Cindy

We have wrapped a disney vacation around Marathon weekend for a few years and have always come in on the Thursday and stayed after for the vacation part. Last year I found it busy , but in years previous it has been pretty quiet the week after.

I think this is a bit like asking about a restaurant, you will get both opinions pretty evenly. If all things are equal I would do the vacation after the race instead of before. Look at it like the vacation is a reward for the accomplishment of the race. However, if you are too sore after the run (or walk) to enjoy your vacation it would be better to vacation first, do the race, and then recoup at home.

No one knows how your body will react better than you. Once you get all the pros and cons I think you will be able to weigh it all and know what will work best for you.

There is no real certan rule. It does depend on you and some considerations you may find helpful from others here.

Don't forget if you are changing time zones going early may make a difference to be more accustomed to the time difference.

I'll vote for vaca after as a general thought. I don't know about Princess weekend since I've not done that event so cannot speak to crowds or such.

If you do the event and play in the parks after don't forget you want to wear your medal that week. That is the "general rule" for those staying after the marathon weekend. Medals are worn in the park! Kind of an earned bragging opportunity and fun to shout out to others wearing theirs.

Good luck with your decision making.

Yikes, sorry what was I reading.....I thought you where talking about January.

I was at the Princess in March and we where in a few days early, crowds weren't bad. However, I believe the later in March you are alot of spring breaks will start??? I know here in Ontario our spring break is usually the 2nd week of March and I know on the Canadian boards, they say it can really hit or miss on how crowded it is that week. Some say it is nuts other say not bad.

Have a great time regardless of what you choose to do.

thanls for the info...i think I will go ahead and plan to fly in on the friday and have an early night saturday and start vacationing AFTER the race. What

time does the race start anyways??

anyone know how and how much it would cost me to get from akv to the race? I would really like to stay there but not at the chance of missing the race(the reason i am going:rotfl:)

Unless something has changed form previous years the race starts at 6:00. You will want to be at the buses at about 4:00. No cost in getting to the start, there will be complimentary buses to the races and to the expo. The only possible exception is that I'm not sure if there are resort buses to the 5K but it doesn't sound like that matters to you.

don't the buses only run from the resorts participating though? animal ingdom is not so I was thinking of a taxi? If it is over 40.oo for the taxi one way I will just stay at one of the participating hotels?
does anyone know what it would cost?

I always stay at POP but I am 99.9% certain that all the resorts have buses. The only possible exception would be the monorail resorts that might just use the monorail instead of buses. You can use this page to send a question to Disney Sports. It won't be same day but they will respond.

The buses will only run from the offical Princess hotels. You will need to get you own way to the start line.
Come and joing in on the Princess thread, you might find someone else who is staying AKL and would be willing to share transport with you.

You know what, I'm sorry. I thought you were talking about the marathon weekend in January. My bad.
