Vacation in Mexico???

We are looking into taking a vacation to Mexico, we have never been, does anyone have any ideas? We would like to go to maybe Cancun.. Does anyone know how to get them cheap? Any information would be great!

Ok. First, you have to ask yourself what it is you are looking for in a vacation. Each of the vacation spots in Mexico (Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta) have very different "feels" and qualities. I was an exchange student in Mexico and the family that I stayed with wanted to show me ALL of Mexico so we went all over. I have since returned on vacation several times. Cancun is lovely and is great if you are into snorkeling or scuba. There are 2 islands off the coast of Cancun- Cozumel and Isla Mujeres. They are both beautiful. Isla Mujeres is tiny and has virtually no night life, but, you can see the ocean everywhere and there are a couple nice hotels, and, my favorite family owned above Pizzari Rolandi. Cozumel is a larger island, it has some nightclubs and is pretty "Americanized" as compared to Isla Mujeres. It is also home to the 2nd largest Coral reef in the world (I believe) and makes for incredible snorkeling. My feeling is that Cancun is so Americanized, you may as well stay in Miami. You won't know you are in another country. I would opt for one of the islands. They are popular with tourists, but, have an authentic Mexican feel still.

Honestly, the beaches in Cancun are very ripped up still from the last hurricane. It was a disappointment last summer, that is for sure.
