Vacation Ideas in Fl?

We live here, so you'd think I'd know what there is to do, lol!

Well, every year we do a 3-5 day Orlando trip or beach trip. We've done Daytona, St Augustine, Kennedy Space Center, Bush Gardens, and all the Orlando attractions.

About every other year we do a cruise or other "big" type vacation. This year's plan was hopefully going to be Grand Canyon and points west. Well the funds just aren't there for that trip this year.

So, I was hoping to find a 3-6 day thing to do more locally and less expensive, like in the state of FL or maybe even Georgia or Alabama. So give me some ideas other than beaches or theme parks...what can we do here?

2 adults, 2 teens. Budget around $1,000.

Thanks!

How about exploring the Keys? I just visited last November for the first time and fell in love. There are so many different things to do in each of the Keys.

One of the things we are looking forward to doing is going back and camping at Sugarloaf KOA. That way we are close to Key West too. My boyfriend has taken his son (now 10) camping twice in the Keys and loved it.

Thanks for responding!

We've been to the keys twice already and would consider that along the lines of "beach" vacation and we're looking for something different. The camping idea is a good one but I don't think we're a camping kind of family.

Any other "points of interest" here in FL? Things to see that I've missed?

What about The Panhandle? Sarasota?

I personally was excited to see that Jimmy Buffet just opened a hotel in Pensacola, would love to spend a few days there! It looks beautiful, but don't know what else ther is to do in Pensacola.
We have friends that love Siesta Key and that area, but I know it's pretty quiet, more of a low key, sit on the beach place.

What about Savannah, GA? There is a lot of things to do if you like history, touring, shopping, eating. There are some nice tours and Tybee Island right off of Savannah will give you some of the old charm/beach combo if you want to relax for a day. There are lots of hotels in the Savannah area that are nice and can help you stay in your budget. It is one of our favorite cities.
Or, if you want to travel a little bit more, there's Hilton Head and a little more north, Charleston, another of our favorite cities with LOTS to do there....

Forts to explore, the Naval Aviation Museum, deep sea fishing, great seafood and just beautiful white sand beaches with emerald green water.
