I have read a few threads that say something about being able to drop baggage of at DTD if you are flying with Virgin. Is this part of Magical Express? Does it cost any extra? Which part of DTD is it located in?

We are flying from MCO into Glasgow. Can you do this on Scottish flights?

Thanks in anticipation

Katrina

its by cirque d solie and its free if booked with virgin holidays but if booked flight only with virgin atlantic its something like $10 each

any va flights can check in there

its open from around 8am on the morning of the flight

not linked to anything disney so if your not hiring a car its best to get a taxi there with your bags

DOWNTOWN DISNEY CHECK-IN
Our check in facilities at Downtown Disney in Orlando allows you to check in for your Virgin Atlantic flight, as well as drop off your baggage and enjoy the last day of your holiday with Mickey and his friends.

WHAT TO DO:
Visit the check in facility located in the valet area of the Cirque du Soleil in the Westside area of Downtown Disney, parking lot L & M.

The check in facility is open daily from 8.15am to 1.00pm local time.

Check in for your flight and you will receive your boarding pass.

Payment for excess baggage, date of travel change fees and upgrade charges can also be taken provided, that the ticket does not require to be reissued. (These charges can only be taken in the form of USD cash or credit cards only).

Your bags are then taken to the airport in secure vans.

All you need to do is arrive at the airport 2 hours before your flights scheduled departure time.

This service is complimentary to Upper Class passengers, Flying Club Gold cardholders, Virgin Holidays passengers and infants.

All other passengers, (providing they are holding a confirmed seat), may use this service at a charge of USD10.00 per person

Thank you so much for your promt answers. We will definately use this in September.

when our info came from VH this week we have got a voucher that gives all the info, I presume that you hand this in when you go to check in at DTD. Saves us dragging luggage round on the last day!

yes take the voucher otherwise you might have to pay the $10

If your staying at disney this is a complete waste of time in my opinion.

We did it the first time we went but wished we hadn't bothered, we had to pay for a taxi to get there as your not allowed to take luggage in the Disney buses, we then had to queue for a good hour in what was the only rain of our trip :headache: we also had to pay for the privilege because we were not virgin holidays customers

Once we'd checked in we had a little time to shop around STD and have food before we had to get the bus back to our resort to get the magical express. DME always picks up about 3hrs before your departure so you arrive at the airport in plenty of time to check in so we felt we'd wasted our morning.

Now we just leave our luggage with bell services, enjoy the last day and then bell services put our bags straight onto the DME it's so easy :goodvibes

The whole VA bag drop thing sounded really good...until I got to your post - I think you're right, I think it may be a waste of time and expense ($10 each plus taxi). We'll just to leave our bags at bell services too :goodvibes

It also means not being up at the crack of dawn to get down to DTD for 8am (I'm not a morning person, not even for Disney!) :rolleyes1

we used to use this also, but the past 3 times it has taken waaaay to long to do and we have lost too much time on the last day. we prefer to just go to the airport now and skip the extra expense.

In my opinion, it is only worth doing the bag drop at DTD if you either a) have a car or b) plan to spend your last day at DTD. If you are using VH transfers, you can have them pick you up from DTD instead of your hotel.

As previously pointed out, you cannot use Disney transport as you can't take cases on the buses and it takes such a darn long time to get anywhere from DTD, it's just not worth doing if you don't have a car.

Alos, personally, I wouldn't pay to use it. We have used it before when we have booked a package but don't bother when we're flight only. It's not worth the $10 per person for us.

Surely your first line should read "If you dont hire a car" - otherwise DTD checkin is great - wether you stay onsite or off.

Even if we hire a car I still wouldn't bother doing it so for us it is a complete waste of time regardless. I would not be willing to pay $40 just to check in early and we are the type of people that like to make sure we allow plenty of time at the airport. So even with a car I would still give myself a 3 hour window to get to the airport. So I might as well fill my airport time with checking in rather than the last few hours of my Disney holiday.

We rely on the disney transport and always stay on site, and this is pretty much what we do :thumbsup2

Check out early, leave the bags with bell hops and make one final rope drop to cram in a last disney fix.

You'll appreciate it all the more at the end of the day when you've been up that long and are knackered by the time you get on the plane - meaning you can sleep the whole way home :cloud9:

We stayed offsite last trip and found this service ideal ideal for us. We didn't have to go back to the hotel, just dropped the bags off and spent the whole day at the parks. We got to the airport 2 hours before and didn't have the extra hassle of queuing at check in.

I know not everyone wants to pay for this service but it suited us and we will definitely do it again.

we payed for this is 2009 and used it free before and we wouldnt book with another airline as we like the fact we can just turn up at the airport and walk straight through security instead of wasting hours checking in

we also try and get there as soon as it opens to miss most of the queues

We've always used this service but we've always had a car. I can see that staying on site without a car it might not be worth using. For us it's worked perfectly and it's a relief to get rid of the suitcases early and make sure our seats have been allocated correctly. On one occasion they hadn't been but because we were one of the first to check in it was easily fixed, not sure if we had checked in later on at the airport that our seat allocation could have been changed so easily. We get enough of the day to allow plenty of time for last minute shopping and one final lunch before heading to the airpor.
