UY Question

Within the next couples of years, I would like to travel to WDW during F&W (Sep/Oct), Flower & Garden (May), and to see the holiday decorations (very beginning of Dec). I can't see us visiting at the same time every year anytime soon, if ever. How important would my UY be in this scenario? I'm driving myself nuts trying to figure out what UY would be best.

Agreed, April would be good.. if you had to cancel the May trip, you'd have plenty of time to reuse the points. If you have to cancel Sep/Oct and do it early enough, you'd be able to bank them before Nov 30. (If you cancel in a shorter timeframe or cancel your Dec trip, you'd still have till April to use the points.)

Consider if there is a 3 or 4 months period that you'd be the most unlikely to travel in. Then think about a UY that starts just after that time.

I suggest an April UY.

Thank you! We've never had to cancel a vacation before, but it'd be good to know we'd be alright if we had to!

I would think a September or October UY would be ideal for your preferred travel.

A September UY would cover your Sep/Oct F&W travel and December travel. Your banking deadline would be Apr 30, but I still don't see that being problematic for your May travel. If you did have to cancel your May trip, you'd want to cancel at least 31 days out anyway so your points don't go into holding (which is what happens for trips cancelled 1-30 days prior to your check-in date) and you'd still be prior to your banking deadline of Apr 30 if cancelling a May trip 31 days out. If you did have to cancel 30 days or less than you'd have all of June, July and August still to use/rent out those points.

An October UY wouldn't be helpful for as far as flexibility for Sep F&W travel, but you would be good for October F&W travel, December travel, and May travel with a banking deadline of May 31. I suppose if you had any travel issues, had to cancel a reservation and end up with holding points, you could use those holding points for Sep F&W travel.

Thank you for the in depth response! Use year is the only thing I feel like I don't have a very good grasp on as far as DVC info goes. I'll have to do some more reading, but what you've suggested seems to make sense.

If you'll hit those times fairly evenly, UY likely isn't overly important. Just realize you'll be taking more risk than if you traveled a more uniform time AND had a good UY. IF you'll travel any of those times more frequently than the rest, I'd target UY for that time. As posted and assuming an even rotation, I'd say August or Sept is best depending on whether you'd go the Sept Holiday weekend or not. I'd rather have one time at slightly more risk (May) than several at slightly less risk.
