We just purchased 270 points for BLT. We've paid in full and have the papers in our hands. We have not yet signed the papers.

We were assigned a February UY. I've done some reading here about UY and am wondering if we should request a different UY month. We plan to take two trips per year--every April and either October or December. Could someone please explain what UY month would be best for us? Also, will we be able to change our UY month since we have not yet signed papers? Thanks.

Give the travel dates you mention, August or September UY would work better.

For example, if you get September, you would have until April 30th to bank any points. All of the travel times that you mention would fall within your 8 month window. If you booked a trip and had to cancel at least 31 days in advance, you would still be able to bank those points.

The drawback of this, when buying BLT, is that your first set of points won't come until later this year (with Feb, you already have them). But I think having a UY that works for your travel is really important as you don't want to find yourself, in the futre, in a situation where you lose points.

Good luck!

Yes, you can change your UY as long as you haven't signed the papers. I did that last summer. I thought I wanted a March UY, but I changed my mind after more thought and decided a June UY would be better for me. I called my guide and she said no problem. She sent new paperwork right out to me. It delayed the process by a few days, but it was worth it. I would suggest an October UY for your travel dates.

One more question. If I change by UY to September or October, does that mean I will not be able to reserve anything until then for this year? Or does it mean that I just can't stay there until that month? Also, in future years my points will available January 1, right? Thanks for the help!

You will be able to make reservations right away as UY has no effect on when you can make a reservation. Your stays, however, can not start until after you get your points.

If you get a Sept or Oct UY, your points will be there on the 1st day of that month every year.

So, if you change to October UY, your first set of points (270) will come Oct. 1st, 2009 and will be good for stays until September 30th, 2010 (unless you bank them). On Oct 1st, 2010, you will get your next 270 points. It will be that way for the life of the contract.

Come January, you won't get any NEW points, but will have use of the ones you already got as well as have the ability to borrow against the ones coming later.

I think you need to familiarize yourself with the whole use-year concept. (For what it's worth, I think people place far too much emphasis on the importance of use-year - your vacation habits will change during the length of your contract.)

See CarolMN's excellent post on use-year on this same forum.
