UY and banked pts ??

OK, I have to confess DH is more knowledgeable about the DVC rules/regulations but I have a ?? and he's out of town for business so I'm coming to the experts!

We have an Oct UY and are looking at adding-on also with an Oct UY. If we go direct through Disney we get 2009 points. If we bank those right away they'd need to be used by the end of Sept 2011 right?

We're thinking of doing a big trip June 2011 for DD13s graduation so I'm trying to work out exactly how many points I have to work with. Does this conflict with the Rule of 4? If it does work that we can use them we'd have those points, the 2010 add-on points and 2011 full amount to work with.

You may bank October 2009, point for use between October 1, 2010, and September 30, 2011.

The rule of 4 applies to non-DVC reservations at Disney cash resorts, the concierge colection, and cruises. In other words, if you are trading out of DVC, you need to make those arrangements (or bank your points) during the first 8 months of your use year.

With an Oct UY, your June 2011 trip will take place in your Oct 2010 UY. You can "pay" for that trip using banked 2009 UY points, 2010 UY points, and borrow any 2011 points you need.

As PP stated, the rule of four only applies to reservations that you make outside of the DVC resorts.

If you want to book and stay at any of the DVC resorts, you can call, book, and travel at any time during your UY.

While OP could bank her 2009 points, wouldn't she have to purchase the points and bank them by May 31? I could be wrong, and use years aren't really my thing, but isn't everyone overlooking the fact that the transaction would have to happen extraordinarily fast for OP to be able to bank the 2009 points?

When purchasing directly from Disney, they usually waive the banking deadline the first year IF your new points are credited to your account near (or within) the banking window for the respective use year.

This is true. We purchased directly through Disney last month. We bought BLT w/a June UY. As an incentive, we received our full allotment of '09 points. Since we purchased in April '10 we were way past the banking deadline of January 31, '10. However Disney realizes it wouldn't be much of an incentive to receive the '09 points then have to use them or lose them by this May 31, so they allowed us to bank them.

We're attending the DVC event at the Doorway to Dreams in Chicago this Friday so if all works according to plan we'll add a small contract then so we should have no problem with the banking.
