The family and I are looking into buying resale and have been reading and re-reading all the available info.

From what Ive gathered, if we prefer to travel twice a year most years, say Oct/Nov time frame and again Jan/Feb time frame would an August use year be best to look for?

TIA for any info!

:)August would be OK. I think I would pick October....you would be able to bank points if you had to cancel any trips during the time of year you travel. UY only really matters if you have situations in which you may cancel trips --elderly parents or weird work schedules.

UY has nothing to do with booking. It only comes into play for your banking deadline and "holding accounts" if you cancel.

Most folks here recommend getting the UY for when you actually travel--

DH and I have a Dec UY--yet we travel Oct-Dec--so not that good for our Oct trips. If we banked points for a big trip (say 420 points since we own 210) planned Oct 1-10, then cancelled Sept 5....we would have to use those 420 before 11/30 :scared1: But Dec is the month that DH picks his vacation for the following year--so in Dec I get my definite travel dates and can book what we want 11 months out.

Clear as mud ain't it

I agree w/ PP. Most will say pick a UY that is at the beginning or just before your usual travel dates - or at least one that you wouldn't travel in the last 4 months. (ie if you chose April, you most likely wouldn't travel Dec-Mar.)

Since you are going resale, I think August, Sept or Oct UY's will be good ones to have and having a few to choose from gives you some flexibility in what contracts you can take. If at all possible, I would just stay away from the winter ones.

IMO, having one that starts just prior to your typical travel allows for the most flexibility in terms of what to do if you have to cancel and want to re-book, need to change your trip to something that will use less points, or have borrowed points that need to be used up.

Good luck!

Ok these responses make more sense than what I was reading the last couple of weeks. We'll look for contracts with Spt or Oct UY. Thanks again!
