I am a little peeved right now. I usually get three newspapers on Sunday at my local farmer's market for $.25. I get that many just for the coupons. Yesterday as I was going through the papers, the red plum was in two of the papers so I thought that was all that was in the paper that week. When I get home to check the other paper, there is a smart source insert which has the coupons that I want to use the most.

Oh well, I will just have to check my papers better next time. I thought it was a little odd when I checked the coupon preview website but I just let it go. Won't be doing that again.

BTDT - it stinks!

You may be able to get your money back for the paper (whoop de do) if you call.

I check every paper now (we get 6 - 1 for each person in the house). It is so frustrating when we miss out on a book bc each week after the that when I need the coupons from that flyer - it is a reminder that I dropped the ball.

Sorry - was there a specif coupon you wanted? I can check if I have any.

That happened to us two weeks ago. Dh and I each bought one not realizing the other was going to - mine only had one insert, dh's had 3. And of course the ones that were missing were the good ones! Obviously someone knew which inserts they were going to steal in advance. Of course these are probably the same people trying to use coupons on the wrong item/same brand to cheat the system... My dh manages a grocery store with really good coupon policies, but he thinks they'll be going away before long - too many extreme couponers costing stores money for their 20 jars of mayo that will go bad long before they're used....

The farmer's market would have already closed, right? I've had coupons or the magazine section turn up missing from the paper when I buy it at the supermarket; I don't think it's theft, it's probably just a "stuffing" error. In any case, the CSR just gave me another copy of the paper or the inserts when I went back later that day or the next.

I get home delivery now, so I have to remember to check the inserts before I buy when I pick up a paper from a rack.

ETA: I'm proud of myself because I actually clipped and filed my coupons from yesterday's paper. I put the file and bags in the car since I am stopping at the market later.

I would agree that it may be a "stuffing" error. Our local paper was the worst until they bought new expensive stuffing equipment. They got much better for about 5 years and now it's getting terrible again. I compare with a neaby neighbor and our papers are sometimes completely different. She gets things I don't and vice versa. If it's clear the paper is incomplete, I call for a replacement and again, the two may be totally different.

I got so mad before the equipment upgrade that I cancelled my subscription for a while. I'm getting close to doing that again.

What is the price per paper printed on each paper, compared to the quarter you paid for the three? I haven't heard of a sunday paper under $1.50 each for years. Hard to complain when you are paying so little for a paper.

Also I just realized on P&G that they only put their inserts in certain papers! So I have been thinking I have been getting cheated when really I was just buying the wrong paper!

I am sorry you are missing the one you wanted the most. I get mine from my Dad. But next week I'll buy it too for the P&G insert. Making sure I buy the right paper! Lately our smartsource insert has been in our local freebie paper too!

My mother has two papers delivered and sometimes one has more inserts than the other. So if you are buying different newspapers, that could be part of the reason for variations. When she has called to ask why she got fewer inserts in one paper, she was told they are distributed geographically and where she lives is not a "target" area. But she likes reading the papers so its not wasted money.

I check the preview site and then look to see if everything I expect is in the paper. I'll check a few different ones - my husband prefers the TV guide in the Portland paper and I like the crossword puzzle and magazine from the Boston Globe. So I usually buy those two. But yesterday the Portland paper had only the CVS insert - I think a stuffing error. The Manchester NH paper had the two coupon inserts, but no CVS. I got the Manchester paper. Hopefully my mother has the CVS insert from at least one of her papers!

If you get home delivery, you're more likely to become a stuffing error victim, because they have to assemble those papers themselves, rather than getting a already-assembled paper from the company that might have used machinery. Sometimes, they don't always get the right number of inserts or they mistakenly put two in one paper, then run out towards the end.

At the stores, they receive parts of the paper on Saturday, to be assembled with the news section on late Sat night or early Sun. That's why they often have the less-time sensitive paper bundled and stuffed inside the actual newspaper.

We didn't get the CVS flyer in any of our papers - I was pretty bummed actually.
