Uugghh! Another shoe thread...this time with teens :)

What's tough with a 17yr (or any 17yr old that I know) is that her feet can be literally bleeding and full of blisters and they will still never ever admit to defeat. (Ha, get it, "defeat"? ;) )

She could also look at Alegria. I can't wear them as the footbed is too soft. But some people swear by them.

Woah! I never said I didnt like any of the answers. You are absolutely right, I asked for those opinions and I don't/won't shy away from them. I truly appreciate everything that people have posted. I just responded. None of my responses are meant to come off snippy towards anyone or their replies. It's just normal conversation. I have a difficult teen when it comes to shoes and I want opinions on some sandal options. I have a GREAT teen! She just doesn't make wise shoe choice :) :) Or rather she doesn't make ANY shoe choice :) She just doesn't like to choose and she tends to have a one track mind. She fixates on one style that is usually just for looks and isn't practical. And she has NEVER liked what I picked out for her :) even when she was a toddler, she has definitely made things fun for me ;)

I wasnt trying to be snippy. Just that you asked for ideas for shoes and got lots of responses on force her or dont force her which you posted that you knew were coming :). My point wasnt about force her or dont force her - just that her choice (while maybe not your choice) of wearing sneaks isnt an impractical choice. Five inch stilettos - bad shoe choice. So it could be way worse!
I know my look could be cuter with a pair of cute sandals but my feet appreciate being supported and protected at the parks so sneaks is my usual footwear. I cant tell you how many people in flip flops I see that get a stroller on their toe or there foot slips off the wet flip flop and they turn an ankle . Just saying that while they may not be the best shoe choice they arent the worse shoe choice. Pros and cons to both.

Agreed on the shoe choice :) I was saying I thought I might have come off as snippy :)And my husband says I naturally ha ve a sarcastic tone anyway. Its all good.

I have two teenagers. My younger one (the mule) refused to pack socks. They are given a list, but I'm not their personal assistant. Pack your own bags.

So anyway, we get down there and she gets blisters from sneakers no socks and tries to steal mine. Uh no, you can wear my yesterday's used socks and that's what she did. 10 days of smelly socks later and she still did not care.

However, if she pulled this during a city walking your during the day, I can completely see her ruining everyone else's day with a blister. I pack a dispenser of Dr. Scholl's rub relief strip's. It looks like a tape dispenser with moleskin. If she is comfortable in Converses she may be fine.

I think you are smart for thinking ahead.

In our house we swear by Saltwater sandals (little fox fashions is doing a pre-order right now). They are leather AND waterproof, though do take a few days to wear in. I personally LOVE the thong ones, my tween likes the classic ones. They are extremely comfortable, and waterproof leather means you don't worry in the downpour!

We also like keens and birkenstocks (thong version)..but I see those have been mentioned!

Those are cute! But do they really stay on? They look like there would be some issues with the back strap :)

Yes, they stayed on well but weren't too tight either. I had them shipped directly to the resort and ended up wearing them nearly every day and then for the rest of the summer too. They have held their shape and been very durable.

Does your daughter like water rides? Mine adores Splash mountain so I was able to convince her to try waterproof sandals. We wear the same size so I let her try Teva Tirras, which dry quickly. She hates having wet feet. There are many other options so have fun shopping. My son is the strong willed one and sometimes they just have to learn from experience.

I'd rather fight the battle NOW than at the parks when she doesn't have any comfortable shoes. I want her to have a pair of sandals to off set the heat of tenny shoes for not only does she hate sandals she hates for her feet to be hot. She needs options!!

Will you have a car? Can you keep the budget for new shoes for when you are there? There are outlets and stores all over, and if you have a car this could be put off to when she actually IS in trouble.

She won't wear it if the "it" girls at school are wearing it.

Sigh, I had friends like that. It's so much easier to deal with someone who knows what they WANT, not just what they want to avoid. And shoes aren't *all* fashion, there's an aspect of actual comfort involved.

The Sanuks...I bought the cloth sling Sanuks and they were comfy for about an hour. Then they hurt. My son bought the thick yoga mat material with the normal "thong", and they are VERY comfy. Once he's outgrown them they are mine mine mine. :) We bought them during a DL trip when our feet were hot. :)

And I bought a pair of Crocs during a DL trip when my feet were hurting like crazy. Both of them did require a thick application of adhesive bandages on the tops of my feet, because they hurt my skin, but they were cool and made my bones happy. So bring some or be willing to go to first aid.

OH, and also bring something like Body Glide, and for when she's wearing the Converse get her moisture-wicking socks. Those will help prevent blisters.

Ok, my daughter will be 17 by the time we hit Orlando next summer. She is being a bit pig-headed about shoes. I get NO help from her when we discuss the amounts of walking she will be doing and the kinds of shoes she will need. Right now all she basically wears are converse and some cheap flats to school. She HATES sandals--a bit self-conscious about her feet. I know I will be able to get her into a good pair of tenny shoes but finding a good, comfy, cute pair of sandals is going to be horrendous. I want to get them this summer so that she will have them broken in well by the time we hit the parks. She HATES sketchers and if I try to bring up Teva's etc she just gives me the look--you know the look teens have:) Last year my other teen wore Toms and they worked for her but this teen hates Toms too. AARRGGHHH! I love that she has her own sense of style and uniqueness---seriously, I do :) But COME ON...she needs to help me out! Does anyone have any ideas on brands of cute-teeny sandals that I might be missing? I'm about to the point(and yes I know there is PLENTY of time for this to all work itself out by the time we go) to let her keep pushing it off and go in what she has and deal with her feet hurting. Then the next time she'll know better :)
Thanks in advance!

Converse??? She is set then.
