Utopia vs Disney Wish

Probably not what you want to hear, but I don't even understand how anyone would want to do just a 3-day cruise. I would try a little harder to convince your husband to do the 7-day on the Treasure.

We actually love 3 day cruises and do them regularly out of LA, but to each their own!

Just an update. We went on the Wish last weekend and are boarding Utopia tomorrow! Full comparison to follow but spoiler, we enjoyed the Wish but definitely understand the comments about the layout and crowded public spaces. Lots of things to love and some things that made us go “what the heck?”

We liked it enough to book a future DCL placeholder!

We have had a slower paced WDW trip this week (partially due to the unseasonably HOT weather this week) so the trip hasn’t felt too exhausting. Getting off the Wish was so much easier on Monday knowing we were boarding a ship in just a few days.

This two cruises in two weekends thing is going to be hard to not repeat.

I have Navigator of the Seas booked for the end of June out of LA to at least soften the blow a bit. Disney doesn’t have a year round ship out of SoCal yet.

i've done 20 DCL, with 3 on the wish. I did Utopia 4 day. It was "loud". and not my jam at all. It's billed as the weekend party at sea and it is. You say "kid soup" with the pools on DCL. The pools were adult soup. andn just music everywhere - just loud.
my brother is pretty elite in royal and they said utopia is not indicitive at all of the vibe and i should try another royal ship.

I had opposite experience on Utopia. Ya it was loud at times, especially when the DJ was playing on the pool deck, but I found it very easy to get away from it. Plenty of times I had the pool all to myself as well

But your brother is right though that Utopia is a little different than the other ships in atmosphere

We are Diamond level on Royal (twenty plus cruises) and while I would agree that Utopia is a very different vibe than other Royal ships, we are having a great time. The Oasis class ships do a great job at spreading people out but you have to know where the quieter spots are. The music volume on Utopia is definitely louder (too loud at the sail away party for my son, who has some sensory sensitivity) but we moved to the pools further back and found it ok.

I would try another Oasis class ship or Icon if you choose to give Royal another shot.

Im giving the Wish another try this Easter weekend. I wasn’t as impressed as I had hoped the first time, my expectations won’t be as high this time. I am trying RC for the first time on the Utopia may 2nd. So pretty close time frame. Disney was just under double the price with only 3 people as opposed to Utopia with 4. So on price RC wins out for sure. (I really love the Fantasy ship most.) I’m trying to do less DCL, just too expensive even with military discount. I’m taking my granddaughter on the carnival Mardi Gras in January. If she loves that one, I’m going to be saving a ton going forward. Not sure I’ll ever give up DCL forever, but I’ve been looking at MSC, Royal, Norwegian, and Carnival, all of the newer ships and private islands are jam packed with fun…albeit, no Disney characters. Im curious to come back and hear your families review.

I need to write it up! Will try to get to it this week. Came back to a busy work week. Very curious what you think, too! (And about the Mardi Gras, too! It has been about 15 years since we did a longer Carnival cruise.)
