Ut-oh, HGVC max occupancy question...

I wasn't able to trade into VWL like I wanted to but I did book at our vacation at HGVC on International. I've stayed there myself previously and love the property but this is the first time we're taking the kiddos.

Given the availability, we booked a 2-bedroom unit. The max occupancy is 6 and we have 7, but 3 of those are little girls. There is a larger 2-bedroom unit available at HGVC Sea World, but I really don't want to be that far out (if I remember correctly from my last stay there, it's a good 15-minute drive from WDW). Anyone have any insight into how much trouble I'm gonna get into if we're one kid over the 6-person max occupancy limit? I can still change our rezzies to the Sea World property if it's going to be a major deal.

They can refuse to let you check in or they can kick you out once you are checked in. Will they?

It's my own dumb fault that I even have to ask this question - I was looking at all three Orlando HGVC's and got it stuck in my head that the International Drive max limit for a two-bedroom unit was eight, not six (the Sea World max limit is eight). So I was unpleasantly surprised to see the limit was actually six on my confirmation.

I can get the rezzie changed but am bummed about switching properties. I guess I need to call them tomorrow. /sigh

We are a family of five and no offense to anyone out there but we've stayed over occupancy MANY times and have not EVER been called on it. I honestly don't see the big deal. It's always been my hubby, me and our 3 girls. I personally haven't ever heard of anyone refusing out there, but I'm sure it could happen. I've even known ppl to stay 5 in a disney value not that I would EVER do that (and I mean it rooms way too small).

You can always just go check-in yourself w/out everyone in tow w/ you. I would not have a problem chancing it; especially since we've done it many time and in nice places, not dumps. You will probably here other opinions but that's just my 2 cents worth .

We have a 3 bedroom booked at seaworld hgvc and after noticing a few discrepancies in the max allowed (anywhere from 8-12) I called and told them we might have 11 people. He told me the max was 10, but it's not like we're all going to be at the front desk checking in together and they aren't going to sit there and count. He told me to just relax and enjoy our vacation. I guess when you check in just have one parent do that, and have the other one off with the kiddies checking thing out. It doesn't sound like it's a huge deal.

I have found these replies interesting.

Did you realize that occupancy limits for hotels/VRs etc are set by the county Fire Marshall (part of the regulations) and are intended for guest safety and comfort? There is also a requirement for establishments to keep a register of guests which can be inspected at anytime by the DBPR (who oversees licenses for accommodations).

I think most people realize this and try to be observant of the rules; I just made a dorky mistake and now because of the high demand and a variety of other reasons, I can't get it fixed. I did try - I spent a fair portion of my work day today trying to find a solution to this (sorry, boss).

I don't normally flout rules and regulations; obviously, they're in place for a good reason. But in this case, I don't have much of a choice because of time restrictions (i.e. - shared custody of my 2 DDs with my ex), unit availability, and cost. In any case, this was more for info rather than to open up the whole max occupancy debate can of worms.

FWIW, HGVC SeaWorld is so close to the Central Florida Parkway entrance to I-4 that even though the distances are a mile or maybe two further away it will take less time to get to most Disney parks from that resort than its International Drive sister resort and the same amount of time for others.
I'd suggest that, if you're concerned about whether you'll get turned (or sent) away for being over the occupancy limit, considering the larger HGVC SeaWorld villa shouldn't be dismissed.

I'd consider switching as well, for the same reason---it's probably *easier* to get to Disney from the Sea World location than it is from I-Drive.

Also, here's this to consider: according to the club counselor I spoke with, the units at Sea World and I-Drive are exactly the same size. The only differences in units between the two are (in her words), "the view". So why on earth is the max occupancy limit for a 2-bedroom at HGVC Sea World set at 8 and the max occupancy limit at HGVC I-Drive set at 6 if they're exactly the same size?!!!

Are they in the same county? Who knows if this has anything to do with it. Do they say what the bedding arrangements are at the I Dr. resort? We've stayed at both and prefer the I Dr. There's a Publix very close and an Outback too if you like steak. The drive to a grocery store was a few miles away from the SW resort. Both are very nice resorts. I'd stay at either again.

The villas may be roughly the same size but the layouts and furnishing aren't. I'm quite certain that the SeaWorld two-bedroom units have a king bed in the master bedroom, a queen size bed and a double, I think, sofabed in the second bedroom, plus a queen sofabed in the living room for an eight-person set-up. The I-Drive set-up is king in the master, king in the second bedroom and queen sofabed in the living room to accomodate sleeping for six. I think that there are developer villa layout renditions for each of the resort at the hgvc website.

They're about three miles, or so, apart.
