Looked around for quotes for car hire, and many didn't even come close to the prices from usrentacar.com. I have booked a convirtable for June 11th, was just wondering if anyone else has used this company and if so whether it went ok?

Would hate to get there and have no car! Do these company's have to be abta bonded or anything like that, and what happens if they go bust, are you covered by your credit card company if that's what you used to pay?

I've heard some horror stories about a car hire company that went bust, so prob me being a bit paranoid, but any info would be appreciated!

Dave.

i used Virgin travelstore this year and they use dollar. it worked out loads cheaper than normal.

Dave

I noticed their prices were unusually low............

I have e-mailed them on three occassions asking:

How long have they been established
Are they ABTA/ATOL bonded
Can I visit their offices to discuss my requirements

Still not received any acknowledgement of any of the e-mails two weeks later..........

As martina said......... I wouldn't go near them ( IMHO ). Too many horror stories of car hire companies going bust to risk dealing with anything other than an established and recommended company . It doen't matter how cheap the price is, if there's no car at the end of it....... it's expensive for nowt!

Always found Airline Network to be very competitive, excellent to deal with....... and ESTABLISHED!!!

If you've already booked ( and I'm surprised you didn't seek advice from the boards before the event rather than later ) and the worst happens you'll very likely be covered by your credit card. Still doesn't help if you're stuck in MCO airport or wherever with bags of luggage and tirde partner with no car though......

Hopefully your fears ( and my concerns about them ) are absolutely groundless. Can someone on the boards give us positive personal feedback about them...... put Dave's mind to rest !!

BTW it's usrentacar.co.uk not .com if anybody else wants to check out the URL.

I'm a bit worried now to say the least. I selected the £50 deposit option, and they are supposed to contact me 8 weeks before I went to confirm payment of full amount. Going to check with my credit company now to check whether they have taken the deposit or any other funds.

Can anyone suggest what I should do now?

Dave.

After contacting usrentacar.co.uk by email I've decided to proceed with the booking. After speaking with them, and doing a bit of research myself I am pretty much convinced that they are indeed genuine. I have also been in touch with my credit card company, and in the event of anything untoward happening I am covered also.

I will let everyone know how I get on!

Dave

It's your decision, mate, but if it were me I'd put the £50 down to experience and book elsewhere.

I got an e-mail from them yesterday which did NOTHING to convince me about them whatsoever. I think martina's post would have made my mind up well and truly!

It's all well and fine that your credit card company say you're covered..... it still won't help you if you're stuck in MCO airport and find you have no car. I can't imagine for one second that you'll get anywhere near the prices offered by Airline Network & others if you're stranded in your airport and trying to get a hire car.

Good luck

Well I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. They have been trading since late last year, I have spoken to people on other boards who have used them without problem. Even a search on the internet does not come up with anything untoward.

Once I receive the voucher, surely I can confirm it with Alamo themselves? This is the company who the vehicle is rented through, they are only the broker.

Also as I said, I am covered with my credit card company, I know you can book a car up to 24 hours before you leave, so if anything goes wrong up to the day before my departure I could still book a car online.

At the end of the day any company can go bump, even big ones, and if this happens I am covered, it just means I may have to wait a while for the money to be put back on my card, but I can still rent elsewhere. I don't see the point in throwing £50 down the drain when there is no evidence to back up that this company is anything but genuine.

Dave.

Dave

Good luck to you then ! They tell people they've been trading anywhere between 6 months and 18 months ( I have proof of this ) so that's a lie to start with.

They owe a FORTUNE from their recent venture which collapsed ...... but if you want to deal with them ...go Ahead, they obviously make their money from people who trust them despite their track record!!

BTW the voucher means absolutely nothing unless they pay Alamo....... and since by your admission their rates are so far below those quoted by Airline Network and other much bigger companies with much more financial negotiating powers this alone would ring alarm bells. In any case as martina has warned you , you could well end up paying $$$$$ more.

As for nothing untoward coming up on the internet...... that tends to be after the event! Try their previous incarnation, that'll REALLY open your eyes !

Your choice mate, hope you don't live to regret it.

Dear All,

My name is Garry Boswell. I am the Managing Director of U.S. Rent A Car.co.uk. The company at the centre of this thread. A customer of ours has very kindly contacted me with regards to this thread so that I can put some minds at ease and stop all this misinformation.

U.S. Rent A Car.co.uk has no business connection with FloridaCarHire.com, who experienced problems in the summer before being bought by Holiday Cars Ltd, or USA Rent A Car, who were part of Hire4Lower who went bust. None of the directors who were associated with any of the companies mentioned here have anything to do with U.S. Rent A Car Ltd and never will. We are also not attached to and have no connection with Holiday Cars Ltd.

My son, Gavin Boswell, did work for FloridaCarHire.com, he also worked for Holiday Autos, and has been in Car Hire for most of his working life, at FloridaCarHire.com he was a manager in their call centre and was in charge of training and motivating the call centre staff and was defiantly not a Director as suggested. He had no responsibility for accounting issues or contract negotiating. He was also the first person to be made redundant from FloridaCarHire.com. I am sure this can be validated through Global Leisure Cars t/a FloridaCarHire.com's liquidators.

I myself am a retired police officer who worked for Hampshire constabulary for 15 years. Previously I was in the army for 22 years.

U.S. Rent A Car.co.uk has been trading for a year, we became a Limited company in Aug 2003. This can all be validated by looking on companies house.co.uk. You can also find information about the directors, unfortunately you would have to part with some hard earned cash.

We have won awards for web excellence and we are also the first car hire company to be excepted by SafeBuy, who are an independent body who monitors web trade and are currently in the final stages of taking over from which?. We are also members of the FLAUSA association and the visit usa association. As with all car hire brokers we are unable to join ABTA or ATOL., but we would whole heartedly support a governing body for car hire.

I totally understand the paranoia that consumers have at the moment regarding car hire brokers but we are an honest company, who pride ourselves on our excellent level of service, which was commented on, it is shame that people are now suspicious of good service!

It appears we have been tarnished with a very ugly brush.

Martina857 accusation that we are involved in a criminal activity as you have mentioned on previous threads is a libellous action. I look forward to you showing everyone the proof that you have! I suggest you post an apology as soon as possible. If this continues I will seek legal advice.

I am more than happy to answer any questions that anyone has. All I ask is that this type of thread is stopped. My team and I have worked very hard and sacrificed a lot to get to this position. I note that this has already lost our company one booking, who knows how many more have been put off by these inaccuracies. If you know of any other threads of a similar nature please can you point them to this information or alternatively forward me the threads and I will post replies.

For your own piece of mind please do some investigating of your own, our Company number is 4877174 our vat number is 831 8261 35.

Please except my apologies if I have appeared rude in anyway, it was not my intention I am very passionate about this company and seeing our good name trashed like this upsets me.

You can email myself at garryb@usrentacar.co.uk or alternatively you can call us on 08715 200 135. Both myself and my son will make ourselves as available as possible.

Kind regards,

Garry Boswell,
Managing Director,
U.S. Rent A Car.co.uk.
