Using UK baby monitor in the states?

Does anyone know if the UK baby monitors will work in the US? Or if there is anywhere that I can hire one from?

If they are battery operated they should work. The only problem you may have is with the transmission frequency.

In the US they allocate radio frequency bands to different uses to the UK (why you can't use UK walkie-talkies in the US), so you may get interference if the frequency your monitor operates at is allocated to something else in the US.

Having said that, the range of the monitors is quite small so you should be ok.

We took ours in 2005, they didn't work and just ate batteries, so last year we popped to Walmart and got these http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7977223

works fine for what we need it for and is in the suitcase ready to go back tomorrow.

Hi,
We took our BT monitor back in October to the villa that we rented. It didn't work. DH fiddled for a while but he thinks it was a frequency problem.
It's the green and white BT monitor plus.
We didnt bother investigate buying one out there as our youngest was two and never woke once she went to sleep anyway (to tired from parks and swimming!).

The older analogue monitors used the same frequency both here and in the US. The problem with them was that they were prone to interference and anyone with a radio scanner could listen in up to half a mile away from your house. The newer digital models are much better and secure but some use different frequencies to the ones in the US. You can buy a set from Walmart for less than $50 not a lot to pay for peace of mind imho.
