Happy new year!!

We have a disney world holiday booked for November 2021, a long way away still, but need some advice about using an uber with a 15 month old baby.

getting a little confused with uber car seat. some websites state you can order an uber with a car seat from 12 month up, others have said 2 year and over. i really don't want to be carrying around a car seat with me while on holiday plus a stroller and all the other stuff that goes with a baby in tow. Has anyone used uber car seat, how old was you child?

oh we brought a travel stroller already, it was super cheap in the sales over Christmas.

Don't read multiple websites, because a) if it's not the Uber website, it doesn't matter what they think, say, or have experienced, and b) any information you read on non-Uber websites is likely outdated.

Here's what UBER says:
"
Child eligibility
Uber Car Seat provides one forward-facing car seat for a child who is at least 2 years old, 22 pounds, and 31 inches tall. A child is too big at 48 pounds or 52 inches."

https://www.uber.com/us/en/ride/car-seat/

I wouldn't rely on an Uber car seat. The car could not have one, it could be broken, dirty, expired, etc. We bought a cheap carseat (cosco) and used that. At 15 months old, they should be in a car seat on the plane also. The cosco carseats are cheap and light but are still safe, with a random carseat in an Uber, it could be expired or previously in a crash, making it unsafe (no matter what the Uber website says).

I would also not rely on the Uber car seat. You wouldn’t be able to use it anyway as your child needs to be rear-facing.

If you don’t want to rely on Disney transportation, I’d rent a car. I assume you will be flying, which means you’ll have your own car seat with you anyway. You know your own car seat is safe and also how to use it. So I’d get a rental car and put your own seat in it.

Uber Car Seat is a separate class of service, for which there is an extra fee ($8 per ride in Orlando last time I checked).

If you order Uber Car Seat, the Uber WILL have a car seat -- no question about that -- but as noted above, it will not be a car seat for a very young child.

Your concerns about age, cleanliness, etc of the car seat are legitimate. Uber has stopped new enrollments of cars with car seats in the Orlando market some time ago, so those would certainly be things I would wonder about.

The other thing to understand about this kind of situation is that, under Florida Law, the onus is on the PARENT -- NOT the driver -- to ensure that the seat is appropriate, correctly installed, clean, etc, etc. etc.

And the final thing to consider is that none of the legalities or marketing things matter. What matters is the safety of YOUR child.

I personally would not use a car seat provided by ANY transportation service -- not just Uber, ANY service.

thank everyone for the responses. i totally agree with ensuring our child is safe. we were told will never have children so this little bundle of amazing is very precious.

while the car seat issues is less of a concern on the plane and then on the transport from airport to hotel. its the logistics of carry around a car seat when going out for shopping in the outlets. The cost of the car seat is pretty cheap in the UK also, so not worried about that. Having read all a the above, does anyone have any alternate ideas?

if it were me and I know the extra cost but would plan on buying baby a seat on plane and use the carseat. most 15 month olds are not going to like sitting in laps for long as they like to be on the move. your child should be used to a carseat by that age and know they will be seated when in. are you renting a car or using ride shares? it would be easier to rent a car for shopping in that you could leave seat in car while shopping. ride share would mean carrying seat with you while you shop. trips with a baby/toddler are very different from adult only. if you are using Disney transportation to and from parks seat can just stay in your room. I have been to Disney with grandkids your child's age but we always drive so seat just stayed in our car

we will be staying on WDW property. we were thinking of hiring a car to go shopping, normally it would just be uber everywhere, but of course this is going to be a massive and inefficient use of money. I think this is a tough one as i do not want to trust others with my child safety as posts above have quite rightly pointed out. i was hoping there might be a specialist taxi company that catered for families with young children in the WDW area with trusted reviews. well i think it might be that we will have to carry the car seat around with us. Need to start working out and getting my cardio up.

Yeah I'd rent a car or just send one person shopping. Convertible car seats are HEAVY, I can get mine in and out of a car easily enough, but it's 15-20 pounds and I wouldn't want to be lugging it around while I shopped (even if I had a carrying case/roller for it).

Traveling with a car seat is a pain in the you know what. They are heavy and difficult to tote through the airport. We have also used the car seat from the rental car company one time and will NEVER do it again. It was a cheap piece of crap! The taxi companies have the same kind, cheap and frankly they even look dirty most of the time. We stopped using the taxi for this reason and now we rent a car and bring our own car seat. I would find a car seat that perhaps has a travel bag or straps that you can use to wear it like a backpack and just use it in a rental car. Our travel bag broke one trip in the airport so we had to put the car seat in the stroller and let our son walk/hold him so that's an option too.
