Using the ME more then once

We just found out my DS will be returning to school earlier then we expected. We've decided that either my DH or I will fly back with him the evening before school starts which is the Thursday before Labor Day and we'll return on the Friday to spend the long weekend. My question is can we use the ME for this? Or is it a one shot deal?

You get one trip from the airport and one trip to the airport per reservation.

If you were to book two reservations (what we here call a split stay), with the changeover on the flight-home day, then it would work. But you'd have to pack up, etc, and the one staying behind would be "homeless" until they got their next room.

Does it have to be on the day you check in/out

Oh, I'd call Magical Express and tell them your needs. We have found them to be very flexible. We have had a party of four with each person flying in and flying out at different times, and they accommodated everyone. They've been very sweet and easy to work with! (They have a direct number. The reservation line can give it to you or it's probably here on the DIS somewhere.)

Each person on the reservation gets one trip to and from MCO. So, the people going back early can book their trip and the others can have their return on a different day. It happens all the time and I have personally done this (my aunt left Disney 2 days before I did. No problems with DME).

You won't have a problem with what you're trying to do at all! Just call them and let them know, or you can even arrange it at the front desk when you check in.

But OP is asking if 2 people on the reservation can each have 2 trips on DME. It is not an issue of coming and going on different dates, the issue is the 2 trips for 2 of the guests. I don't think this is allowed.
But I agree, call DME directly and see if they will make an exception.

Here is some FAQ's that I found from touring plans site that may help.
Members of my party are flying to Orlando on several flights arriving at different times. Can we use Magical Express?

Yes. Make sure their names are on your room reservation and that you give ME their flight information. There’s no need for you to travel all together. Each person can take a bus independently upon arrival.

I’m arriving in Orlando several days before my Disney room reservation starts. We’re renting a car and going to the beach. After I return the car back at the airport, can I take Magical Express to my resort?

This one is tricky. The short answer is probably yes. Here comes the long answer …

The Magical Express paperwork states, “Complimentary transportation services provided by Disney’s Magical Express are associated with a Walt Disney World room reservation and include a one way ground transfer between the Orlando International Airport and your Disney hotel on the day that you check in and a one-way ground transfer from your Disney hotel to the Orlando International Airport on the day you check out.” You’ll note that there is no language here about a need to FLY to the Airport. As long as you’re going to your resort on your check-in day, then it really doesn’t matter how you got to the airport itself.

However, Magical Express does want to know approximately what time you’ll need transportation, so they can make sure to have enough buses available. The only real mechanism they have to note is is via a flight number. Since you’re driving to the airport, you won’t have a flight number. This may fluster some ME reservationists. A good workaround is to find a flight that arrives at approximately the time you want to go to your hotel. Simply give that flight number to the reservationist as a placeholder.

Any other workarounds?

Well, you could just show up at the Magical Express desk and ask for a ride. I’ve done this myself twice. As long as you have a valid Disney resort reservation number and there’s room on the bus, they’ll transport you.

Members of my party are arriving on different days. Can they be accommodated on Magical Express?

Probably, just call ME and let them know what you need. I’ve had WDW trips several times where my husband either arrived a few days after me or left a few days before me (pesky business meetings). In every case, ME had no problem putting him on a bus.

Yes, you can use DME to return to MCO on a day other than your check-out day. Happens all the time. Can dad, or mom, use DME to get to the resort (again) and then back to MCO (again)? Probably not. You could call DME and ask them...who knows what they will say. The other option would be to try to use Mears. Many people have reported being able to ride DME if they paid for Mears....for instance, they weren't on a room reservation, for some reason. They walked up to the Mears counter, at MCO, upon arrival, and paid their $15 or so. They were then sent over to the DME area and put on the appropriate bus. Same thing coming back to the airport. That might be worth a look see.
