Hello! I thought the Budget Board would be the best place to post this question I have since it's money related. :rotfl2:

I have two rebate Visa cards ($40.00 and $20.00). I have saved these for our upcoming Disney trip and had planned to apply these once we arrive at our resort. If you have tried to use these type of cards, you probably know what a pain they can be since it requires you to keep up with the exact amount available on the cards.

My plan is to have them each applied to our account once we check in, creating a credit balance that we will use up. If I ask the check-in agent to run through each one separately, this should work, correct? Has anyone else done this or had experience using these cards?

I read another post a few weeks/months back that people were able to use these type of cards at Walgreens and buy a Disney gift card but that feels like more work since I don't have a Walgreens close and I'm not sure how I would do it with these amounts? If I needed to buy a $50 one and use my $40 Visa rebate card, would I give the cashier $10 in cash and then ask the cashier to run through the remaining $40 on my Visa rebate card?

Thanks to anyone who might be able to offer any input! :)

I have used those visa things to buy disney cards from disneyshopping.com. It's always gone through for me -- they didn't put a hold or anything that messed it up. I used a visa one last month and an amex one in December, so the experience is pretty recent. I'd try that. Just buy in 2 separate transactions to prevent confusion: a $40 and a $20 card.

I used mine at the local Giant Eagle. No problems paying for a Disney gift card at all.

Not sure if a 'rebate' card is the same as a gift card. I had a gift card for Christmas (and I know what you mean about needing to know the precise amount). I tried to use the card when my husband and I had a weekend away to check into the hotel, or pay the balance and the lady said to me,"these usually don't work." she didn't know why, but she was right. It wouldn't go through. It worked at the bar but not at the resort. BTW I'm not talking about a trip to Disney, that might be different.

You can always buy a Disney gift card, or Disney dollars, even if you are already there, like the PP had suggested. Whenever someone runs your card through, just make sure they know only to put in the amount that is on the card. If it's a $40 Visa card and you are buying something for $50, they need to do the Visa as a partial pay. Then the balance how ever you like.

Good luck

Why not just use them when you have a purchase that is over the amount of the card. i.e. If you are buying something for $50, apply the $40 card and charge the remaining $10 to the room. That's what I did with one of the cards. It seems easier than applying them to the room and then using them.

We used our Disney Visa rewards card to pay our room expenses on our last trip. We had a credit card on file, but went down to the front desk the day before checkout (when the card would get charged) and asked them to apply the rewards card value to our account.

I've used phone rebate visa cards at DW in the past at 2 different times. I used them at check in to pay for our room only reservation.

Hmm...now that's an idea - especially if it'll work! :) Thanks for letting me know you recently did this. I had not thought of ordering them online! :cool1:

Thanks - we don't have Giant in our area, but good to know they can be used elsewhere! :thumbsup2

Yep these "rebate" cards are special. They don't work like usual gift cards. The usual gift cards you don't have to keep up with how much is left in order to use it. You basically just use up the funds until they are gone. I've had a friend who tried to use an AT&T Visa rebate card at Walmart and she immediately said how hard they were to run through and unless she was charging that exact amount, she could not break it into 2 transactions. :confused3 Funny you heard the same comment! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm glad this worked for you and I appreciate the tip.

This is really the way I'm leaning...Glad to know this worked as well since this seems the easiest way to "get rid" of them!

Perfect! I just mentioned above this is the way I'm leaning so I'm glad this worked for you too!! :) Thanks for reassuring me :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I feel a lot better about bringing them with me if I decide not to order them online before leaving next month.
