Using Pkg code then upgrading to AP??

Help!

I'm sure I read somewhere on the boards about being able to book a MYW package, then (if you want) you could upgrade your MYW tickets to APs.

I currently have room only reservations booked using a AAA (CAA) discount. We were planning on buying our APs when we get to WDW.

If I book a MYW pkg that offers free park hopper & water parks, can I upgrade those tickets to APs? Would they give me the full value of the park hopper & water park tickets??

I'm hoping a DISer that's done this can offer some advice!

DSis and I booked a free dining trip with MYW park hopper tickets for Sept. 2006. On the very last day of our trip, when all of our free meal credits had been used up, we went to Guest Services in the MK and exchanged our MYW tickets for regular (not premium) AP's. We paid only the difference between the MYW park hoppers and the AP's, which at the time was around $264.

The timing was important to us because if we had exchanged our tickets any earlier we would have lost any remaining meal credits when we made the exchange.

You can go to any Guest Service location to do this; it doesn't have to be at the MK.

I had the WP&M park hopper free upgrade for my trip in January. I had to book by Dec 15, pay the base ticket price and all the upgrades were free. On my last day, after using all the dining credits and park admissions, I went to Guest Services and they gave me the FULL RETAIL VALUE of the WP&M hopper tickets even though I didn't pay the full price. This is a very good deal, I was able to get AP for reasonable price and have $150.00 extra applied to my cost per ticket that I didn't pay for!

Do note: Once they do the upgrade they told me the KTTW card won't work to open your resort door anymore so make sure you check out prior to making the exchange!

I went ahead and booked the pkg (free hopper & fun). GraceLuvsWDW, your experience seems to be exactly what we will doing! I did ask the CM when I changed our room only to a pkg if we could upgrade to an AP, and she said we could, but I was worried it may only be a deeply discounted amount, so you've put my mind at ease.

This is not entirely accurate. I upgraded my 10 Base tickets form a MYW Free Dining Package on our First day at the parks. I went to AK guest relations and had them upgrade them. The reason i upgraded them at the beginning was I wanted to park hop and i didn't want to upgrade twice. We still had all 10 Days worth of Free Dining. It didnt make an difference on our dining credits.

To answer the question. Yes you will be able to upgrade to an AP. They will use the amount that the ticket is worth not the amount you paid for it. And you can upgrade to a regular AP ONLY IF you havent put your MYW ticket into a park Turnstile yet. So dont use the ticket until you upgrade it!

That's funny, that's exactly opposite of what I did. I made sure to use all of the ticket media on the card prior to my upgrade. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE ANY OF THE WP&M FEATURES OR THEY WILL REQUIRE YOU TO DO THE PREMIUM AP. Someone made that very clear to me before I left and I want to pass on the favor. I was told that you must use your ticket at the turnstile at least once prior to doing the upgrade or the Guest Services CM won't give you the full value of the ticket including the WP&M hopper value. There are some threads regarding this, research it carefully and good luck!

I did this last January. I upgraded on my second park day and did not lose any dining credits. I was issued a new card as my AP and used that for park admission, but had no trouble using my KTTW card for unlocking my door or using the DDP. If you use any of the "plus" options, you'll have to upgrade to the premium AP.

I had purchased a 6 day ticket with my package. I was credited the face value of a 6 day PH + WP ticket when upgrading, and the cost of the upgrade was $137.

FWIW, i've had an easier time handling ticket upgrades at MK than at other guest relations locations.
