Has anyone ever opened their browser and made a new reservation with the "holding the room for 20 minute" program they started, then opened a second browser, cancelled an existing reservation that puts your points back into your account, then resumed the new reservation in the initial browser and used those points to claim the room?

Didn't know it occurred instantaneously (or close to)... thought there was a delay in the process.

I tried it once when I was trying to get a room for the next day. It didn't work. Just bumped me out of the room I was holding when I signed in for another session.

I did a trial run of this to see if it works. This was not too long after the online booking began. I made a one day reservation. Then I opened another browser and started a new one day reservation. Went back to the first reservation and canceled then used those points for the second. I think I tried it again and simply opened a new window in the same browser and it still worked. I haven't tried it recently so maybe the upgraded DVC booking won't allow it any more.

I tried it May 1st for a Dec. 1st ressie, using two different browsers, and it recognized that I was already signed in. :( So, given that I had an alternate plan if I didn't get exactly what I wanted, I canceled what I had about 5 minutes ahead of time, and then booked what I really wanted.

Did test runs on this (made one reservation and then tried to switch) a couple of times months apart and it did not work either time. When you go back to the screen that is on twenty minute hold and try to refresh it to include the points from the canceled reservation so you can use them, the result is you end up back at the beginning reservation window where you put in dates, resort and room category you want.

I have tried this before and it didn't work. The points didn't go back to the first browser with the reservation until it refreshed. It wouldn't refresh with the reservation in place i ended up having to start again.

Looks like the online booking update a while back killed this trick. Another DVC "enhancement" to our membership!

Has anyone tried it with multiple browsers - like one window in FireFox and another in Chrome, or something like that? I've noticed that some websites will maintain session status across multiple windows from one "brand" of browser, but if you open another one, the session isn't still active. Might be something to try.

Yes. I tried it with IE and Google Chrome. It didn't work.

I went in at the 7 month booking window for Christmas and cancelled my original ressie 5 minutes before booking started for the day. I, of course, had checked that what I wanted was available first. then right at 7:00 AM, I went in and booked what I was looking for. Actually, I had it pre-selected, so all I had to do was hit book.

OT, but so similar, you can't do it with airlines either. We had a small group that wanted to travel together, couldn't do it together on line. Two computers holding the space, but until you hit the last button and get confirmation, it is not yours. One computer got it, the other got a malfunction. Used to be airlines would hold the space until you finish the transaction… not anymore!
