I know it says it runs all hours of the day but wondered how hard it is to use this at 1:30 in the AM. Is it quick or will we be better off to get a shuttle service?

I would use a town car service. I've only used it once late-ish, and it was more than 2 hours from our plane landing to standing at our resort check in counter. We landed at 11 pm, and were checking in at 1:30 am. Unfortunately there is no way to know ahead of time how long your transfer will take. But I decided then that it was worth the $75 bucks to be on our way right away, instead of having to wait for a bus and then waiting on the bus.

Thanks maxiesmom. I had a hunch that was going to be our experience. I don't want to deal with that our first day there!

Is this when you first arrive at the airport at the beginning of your vacation or for return to the airport at the end of your vacation? I've used the Magical Express for middle of the night/2am return to the airport and it was simple and efficient. Usually at least one other family waiting with me for the shuttle. Just remember to set your own alarm plus ask for a wake up call.

Note that if you're arriving then, you have to get your own luggage, I think.

Late at night, they tend to "hold" the busses at the terminal longer than usual to wait for more passengers. In our experience, it did take longer. And yes, you have to get your own luggage at that time.
I wouldn't say it was "harder", it was just longer.

DME has a pretty good idea how many guests are arriving at that time of night. If they are expecting, say, 12 people between 1 and 2am, they are most likely going to try tiger all 12 in the same bus. If the resorts are really spread out, they might put two buses out, or even vans.
Some people have had really quick service at this time...short wait for the bus, then departing after a short wait....getting them to their resort about 60-75 mins after landing. Others have had much longer wait times....taking over 2 hrs to get to the resort.
There's no way to tell.
