I am almost ready to make the call to our travel agent to pay for our Disney Cruise!

Having bought them before for a Disney World trip, I know I can buy Disney gift cards at Target and get 5% off my cruise. My travel agent said I can pay her with them. We get some on board credit for booking through this travel agent.

Are there any downsides to paying with a gift card for the whole cruise?

If you cancel, your refund will be in Disney gift cards. I think that's it.
But if you do go that route, what you'll want to do is consolidate them into multiple gift cards of $1000 per gift card (so that if you do end up getting refunded, it will go back to those cards, rather than 50+ cards).

Starry-solo summed it up well. Also, just to point out by consolidating the cards, you are making it easier for yourelf to submit the payment and quicker and easier for your TA to pay Disney. Most will strongly suggest you do this.

any consolidating will mean you only have to hang onto and check the high value gift card 6 weeks after your cruise. Twice we have random port taxes refunded with no notice.
