Using Developers Points?

How is everyone using their developer points? I'm still getting two different answers for DVP usage. We're doing a 4 night cruise and 3 nights in WDW in Feb. 2010-I would like to book SSR with these-which one agent said is ok,although I can't do this until the 7 month window opens.

The other agent said that I have to travel by Oct. 2009-so that I can't do this. My other option is to just use these towards our Feb. 4-night cruise-but they will only pay for 2 of us-the other 4 of us would still have to be paid with cash and when I make the switch the one left over in the point cabin would have to be paid for right away and we would lose the room credit. Is anyone else having problems using their DVP points? I wish I could just book SSR between now and Oct. but we can't fit it in any advice would be most welcome...

The developer points expire Oct 3, 2009, they can be used at SSR, DLR or deposited with RCI. If deposit with RCI they would be good up to 2 years.

I really didn't want to use them myself - I bought at BLT to stay at BLT, and booked a December trip (If I don't stay at BLT, then I stay at BWV or BCV). So, the choice was to either rent them or give to family/friend. I've rented before, but was feeling generous so I offered them to DBrother. He's staying 4 nights at DLR, and is thrilled. It works out well for him since we'll be at a family baptism in N. CA, and then he can fly south to DLR before heading home to Chicago. Not an economical choice, but everyone's happy.

As much as I would love a trip to DL or a third trip to WDW this year-I think we will use the points to pay for two of us on our 2010 4 day cruise-I'm hoping to use the rest of my 2010 points (I just booked 3 days at BLT for our WDW trip after the cruise) to pay for the 3rd person in my cabin. Do you think they will let me use DVP points for 2 people and regular points for the third person-they said cash yesterday-but I didn't ask about points. Now I just have to pay for my husbands cabin!

You can't use the DPs they are currently giving out for a cruise. Only SSR, DLR or RCI... and those trips have to be taken (or in RCI's case deposited) by Oct 3, 2009.

We bought while we were on a cruise-so I think that is why we can do this-both of the agents I spoke to yesterday said we could do this and even calculated how many DVP points we would need. I hope they were right-as that is the only way I'll be able to use the DVP points...

the DP contract addendum you signed will spell out how you can use them, do you have a copy of that? The one I originally received (we later switched to the DCL incentive) did state they expired Oct 2009 and could only be used at DLR, SSR or RCI. Your addendum could definitely be different, especially since you purchased on the cruise. I'd suggest reviewing it if you can to be certain...

We're getting quite a bit of use out of our developer points. We're using a big chunk for a 6-night stay at SSR in a 1br in May on Mother's Day week.

I'm using another 13 points for a studio on 3/29 because I'm doing a girlfriends' getaway weekend at another resort, but I needed to stay over an extra night so that I could use Southwest rewards for free air travel. (No availability to fly home on that Sunday when my friends leave, but lots of availability on Monday.)

We already have a trip to BLT booked for December, so that left us with 92 points remaining, so we're giving them to a friend and her husband. They were going to stay at POP on the free dining plan in September, but decided to take me up on the offer of nicer accommodations - and they can add the dining plan for about the same price they would've paid for POP.

So that leaves me with 8 leftover points - and I think about $4000 in room value extracted from the "free" points.
