Using AA miles to pay for Universal vacation

Has anyone done this? We're planning on booking one night with park tickets with aa miles and then booking another night separately. I realize it's probably not the best bang for your buck but we got 40000 miles just for signing up for the card and we don't need the flight. I was just curious as to how it works. I think we're supposed to give a confirmation number at the park ticket booth to get our tickets. Just wondering how smoothly this goes and if it's possible to upgrade our tickets at the park. I used 80,000 the other day. I used 40,000 and $150 to book 2 nights at RPR. I'm going the last week of March, so it's kind of peak season. Then I used the other 40,000 plus $245 to book 3 nights at POP AND one five day hopper pass. I'll let you know if I have any trouble redeeming the vouchers.

To redeem, to to Redeem Advantage Miles / Non-Air Mileage Redemption / Vacation Packages or New! Car Rentals and Hotel Stays. I found POP was not available on the New! Car Rentals site but WAS available on the Vacation Packages site. Go figure. You need to book at least 2 nights.

Just thought I'd bump this to see if anyone has new info or opinions. We leave in 5 weeks and wound up using miles to pay for 2 nights at RPR. Now I'm starting to worry about the check in process. Sure hope there's no trouble redeeming our vouchers and we have a room with 2 queen beds.If anyone has done this I would love to know! Thanks!
