Using a wheel chair and still goin on rides?

Ok here is my situation, I am currently waiting to be put on the heart transplant list. The problem for me however is that I have been to Disney many times without using a wheelchair, this time however my Dr suggested I rent one when I go in July because of trying to preserve the heart I have until I get the transplant. Mind you this is not an easy thing for me to do because I hate being gawked at much like anyone else with a disability does. I still want to go on rides, is that a faux pas? has anybody seen this done?

First the stress such as G forces from some rides could cause damage and you really really have to think about whether you can handle the forces of the ride. There are things that pregnant ladies do not go on because they want a healthy baby and thus avoid the stress on the fetus. I would love to see the treehouse but I know that my knees would hurt and I may actually start falling later in the day because my sore and hurting knees would not hold me up. Being able to do something does not mean you should.

Rent an ECV so you can easily get around the park without tiring your family. You can get a GAC if you plan to leave your ECV or wheelchair some times. VEry few people report being gawked except for the pretty lasses and laddies. Most guests are in such a hurry or so enthralled with the park that they do not care. Ain't there business so unless you have 9 eyes and 6 arms you will be fine. If anyone gives you guff then options include staring back, turning and staring at the spot behind you like there must be something important as that person is staring through you , ignore them while having your own fun, or politely talk to them and explain to them.

Be sure you pick up the Disablity guide from Town hall or you can download it from the Disney.com website it will tell you which rides are accessible and how to approach them.
Nothing to be uncomfortable about and no on will be gawking at you. Just be careful of which rides if they are stressful etc. common sense

Please ask the following questions. Here are the suggested answers to go with them.

1. Are you disabled (even temporarily)? Yes.

2. Do the people you are traveling with, such as your family, know you are disabled? Yes.

3. Do you expect to meet anyone you know during this trip who may not know you are disabled. Probably No!

4. Do you expect to meet a bunch of people who you will probably never meet again in your life? Probably yes!

5. Is there any reason at all that you should care what these people think about you? Absolutely No!!

6. Will using a wheelchair or ECV make for a better vacation for you and your family? Absolutely YES!

Just be sure to get a copy of the "Guidebook For Guestgs With Disabilities" at each park. If there are any warnings such as people with bad backs, heart conditions, or pregnancy are advised not to ride that definitely applies to you. (And Disney is very conservative; do you know how much paperwork is involved for Guest injuries?)

I do it every trip (don't have a choice)

And now DD 11 will have to do it in April, her's is still an invisible disability, however, she has to do it. She'd rather go with it, than not go at all... I guess I feel the same way. In order to travel and to move around like everyone else, I have to do it in a powerchair....

I vote for going with the wheelchair and never looking back.....
