Ok, only one more question I promise. I guess I need a little information on use yr. Here is my question....just for discussion sake...if I had no pts left in the 2002 yr, and my use yr was Feb. woud I be able to call right now and make ressies for 11 months from now, which would be after Feb, or would I have until February to call and make something for next Sept.?

Use year has nothing to do with when you may make a reservation- that is always guided by the 11/7 priority.

You may call right now to make a reservation for Sept 23 or earlier as long as you will have points available- either banked from this year, from the 2003-04 use year or borrowed from Feb 04.

So am I right in assuming that use year doesnt matter too much? Right now we are looking at 400 pts at OKW with a Feb use yr.

the biggest issue with use year is for banking deadlines and if you ever have to cancel a trip.

Right now we will usally be going in Jan and we have an Aug UY. If we had to cancel a trip we had planned for Jan, we would still have time to bank all 100% of the points if we needed to.

Others can explain better the banking/UY relationship. one of the areas I am fuzzy on (how many months are suggested between usual visits and UY)

Use year is simply when your points are renewed each year.

It can be important if you need to cancel a reservation- since banking deadlines are determined by your use year as Mike stated.

If you have a Feb use year and cancel a Jan reservation in December, you will have to use the points before Jan 31 or lose them. If you have a Feb use year and cancel a March reservation, you can merely bank the points if you will be unable to use them before the following Jan 31.

The best utilization of use year is to travel within 3 months after your use year- but only if you are likely to need to cancel. If you don't cancel- use year is simply when your points are renewed each year.

Thanks so much for the information everyone!! You've all been so helpful!! I think the Feb. use year will work out for us since in NH we have a February vacation in schools.
