So...(pretty sure I know the answer but I gotta ask anyway)

When buying a resale, do you have to keep the UY as it is listed? (the answer is yes, huh?)

So if you have a number of points that you know you want to buy, and you plant to vacation (roughly) the same time each year, you would have to wait for that # of points with the "right" UY to come up on a resale list, wouldn't you?

One could wait "forever" for that "perfect" resale listing, right?

(does that make sense? I hope so!)
thanks again,

Yes, you can't alter the Use Year of an existing contract when you purchase it on the resale market.

If it's your first contract, I don't think which Use Year you buy is all that important.

Keep in mind that Use Year has NOTHING to do with when you can make a reservation or when you can travel. It is simply the month each year when your points are renewed - and thus determines your banking deadlines.

If you are prone to cancelling reservations - especially on short notice - it mitgh be best to find a Use Year shortly before you will usually travel (ie- if you will usually travel in September, an August or September Use Year would work well for you since you'd have plenty of time to reuse or bank you points from a cancellation). You would be better off NOT to have an October Use Year for September travels - but again, this is important only if you will need to cancel.

IMO, Use Year importance is over-emphasized as an important consideration.

YMMV. :)
