I have a use year of April. I have to bank the points by Nov 30. What if after November, I decide to take a trip in January. Can I use those banked points for my trip or do I have to borrow from 2023 and then have to use my banked points by March 31 of 2024?

You can borrow points that you didn't bank. Yes, you have to use the banked points in the 2023 UY.

So once I bank the points in November, I can't use them in Jan, Feb, or March?

Correct. Banking is a final transaction as is borrowing. Once points are moved, they can’t be moved again.

So, once you move your 2022 UY points into your 2023 UY, they must be used in your 2023 UY.

To travel in those months, you’d have to now borrow your 2023 UY points and once that is done, they can’t be moved back…
that means if you booked and canceled, or wanted to change, they would expire March 31st, 2023 no matter what.

This is why we talk a lot here about traveling after your banking window. It becomes a lot less flexible.

I have a related question, that I think @Sandisw generally answered.

I have a June UY. If I borrow points from my 2024 UY for a June 2023 reservation, but then unexpectedly have to cancel (more than 31 days before), do I have to use those points before the end of the 2023 UY (i.e., May 31, 2024), or can I "bank" them to use for the 2024 UY (i.e., June 2024-May 2025)?

Thank you in advance for the help! This is our first DVC purchase (through DVC Resale Market) and I am still familiarizing myself on the banking and borrowing rules. We tend to be "over-planners" and just want to know what our restrictions would be if something does come up where we have to modify or cancel.

Once borrowed, they are now part of your 2023 UY and will expire May 31st 2024.

Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can’t be reversed.

Banking only applies to the current UYs points so if you did cancel the 2023 UY can be banked,

The borrowed points would stay in the 2023 UY and cannot be banked.

Thank you @Sandisw and @RNstitches for the fast responses!

For a little more info, we already have one room booked and were talking to extended family about our upcoming Disney vacation plans next summer. After talking about it, they are now planning to join us, which we're looking forward to. While they are fine arranging their own accommodations, we would love for them to stay on property with us. We would need to borrow some of our 2024 UY points to cover their full reservation and I just want to be fully aware of the implications if, for whatever reason, they need to cancel.

With that in mind, since we would have two reservations, I imagine I could reach out to MS if I needed to cancel the one for our extended family and keep the one for my immediate family. In that case, would MS be able to "shift around" points so that the borrowed points that expire at the end of the 2023 UY are allocated to the reservation we keep, and have the "bankable" points for 2023 UY returned to my account?

I recognize this question may only be definitively answered by MS, but thought I'd ask this group first for your insight based on your experiences. I also recognize this may start to fall into a gray area so one member's experience may differ from another, so I'll keep my expectations in check accordingly.

If you need to cancel and it's before the points go into holding, you cancel the one reservation with the borrowed points and then "modify" the remaining reservation by clicking on "modify" but not changing anything within the reservation. When you accept the "modifications" it will reallocate the borrowed points to be used first, and then you can bank the 2023 points not used.

Yes they can do it. It’s not automatic so you have to modify..as explained above..or call MS.

It just has to be done at least 31 days in advance because any changes to a reservation, even if you just want reallocate points, will result in holding status if it is less than that.
