use DDP for Crystal Palace lunch or Raglan Road dinner?

On our final day I (Jan 2) have booked Crystal Place at Lunch time and Raglan Road for dinner for my family of three (2 adults and one 13 yr old), we will only have one DDP full service credit left so which would we be better paying out of pocket for versus using our final sit down meal for?

Thanks for any help.

I would check the Raglan Road menu and figure out what you are going to probably be ordering. With Crystal Palace, it's a set price for the buffet, so it's more initial sticker shock than final bill shock.

Well, this could really be a test of the 2018 plan. You'll definitely get an alcoholic or specialty beverage at Raglan Rd, so if that appeals to you then Raglan might take you over the edge for value. But we don't know if alcohol will be included at Crystal.

If one of you wants one of the $28-30 entrees at Raglan and/or one of you wants an alcoholic drink, I'd save a credit to be used at Raglan and pay OOP for one at Crystal. You would at least get a dessert you can share.

By the way, CP will cost all of you right at $48 for lunch, so you would need to order one of the higher priced entrees at Raglan to make that a better value.

Assuming you have the regular plan and not the Deluxe plan (3 TS per night). Calculations might be different if on the DxDDP.

Thank you, very helpful. Yes we have the regular plan with one Full service meal per day. We arrive in Dec so when I saw the changes for the 2018 plan called WDW and they were not sure if the plan booked in 2017 prior to the announcement and carrying across into the New Year would be qualify for the alcholic drink. Do you know if the new rules will apply to our plan once the calendar flips to 2018? That may be the deciding factor. Thanks for any assistance

There was an article somewhere that said EVERYONE from Jan 1 - 14 will have the 2018 plan, no matter when their vacation began. The reality is the restaurants have no way of knowing when you began your stay and therefore which plan you paid for, so come Jan 1, everyone gets alcohol and specialty drinks. Once Jan 15 arrives, everyone is then definitely on the 2018 plan.

Personally, I'd lean towards using the DDP at Crystal Palace simply because Raglan Road is a place where you might want more flexibility than the DDP entree-and-dessert formula. They have a number of absolutely delicious appetizers/sides and portions are pretty shareable (esp. if you're also sharing appetizers), which lends itself to trying several items for the table if you're so inclined.

On a purely financial basis, Raglan Road might be the more expensive meal if you're interested in the pricier entrees and/or using your beverage for alcohol. Or it could be cheaper, if you're looking at less expensive meals and sodas. But either way, you're ruling out some of the best parts of the menu by sticking to what is covered on the basic dining plan.

Really it is only one credit so look at the cost of the one adult at crystal palace and then look at the menu for Raglan Road -- you might want to splurge a little at Raglan road and order a more expensive meal and get a dessert when you might normally not get if paying OOP - the alcohol may fact in too if you might want a drink - I would value the drink at ~$9 - so figure out what meal you or your DH might order and see which restaurant makes the most financial sense.
