I've been watching air fares of USAir out of a small local airport, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Int'l, for some months now. In Nov. 2003 we paid $223 RT, up from the $206 the previous year. For the last 6 months they've been skyhigh, $300 - $500 rt. Now I'm seeing $213 from early Dec. up to the week before we're going, 3/5 - 3/14. I'll jump on that if it's offered my week, but I was wondering if this is a trend with USAir or other carriers. Are other airlines lowering fares?

We're trying to get decent USAir flights out of Pittsburgh for 3/26 - 4/3 for a DCL cruise but they've been really high, especially since I need a flight after noon on departure day. Last August we paid $183/person for our trip to WDW and got $195/person for our Thanksgiving week trip in a few weeks. I was hoping to grab similar deals for late March. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

I'm looking for April 21 to 25 and it's $367! I looked at the seat charts and the planes are 80% empty! It's the Sunday return that's pushing it up, if we return Monday it's $190! I can't miss another day of work so I'm waiting this one out!

It has been 206.50 for awhile now leaving from PHL the end July. I paid 164.50 this past September and was hoping for a rate closer to that, but it does not look like it will come down in the near future.
I will keep an eye on it for another month or so and hope that they get a little closer to $180.00

DebbieB,

I've checked every week from now 'til the end of Feb. and the rate is $215 or so. In March it goes to over $300. It seems that USAir start out high, then comes down to earth as the date approaches. If this is so, the next week or so should show a drop to a level I can take, and next month you'll see the same. Don't expect it to drop below the rate for the same week last year though.

Bill, it's just not true for President's Weekend. They want $361 out of Avoca. I paid $180 per ticket for our last flight in October 2002. I'm hoping this will come down so I don't have to drive to Phillie or Newark. You're right about every other week in February, though. I'd book at $200... not at almost $400. At this point, even the Hub cities are high priced. Heck, if I can't get a cheaper rate to Florida, we just may have to go to Puerto Rico instead. (I know... poor us...)

RUDisney,

I neglected to mention that I skipped holiday weeks. I wanted my survey to be typical of the week we're going, a Fri. to the following Sun., non-holiday. Someone here suggested that I'm treading in Spring Break week, and actually my college is off that week, but we're early and rates have been from $205 - $230 for this week for the past few years. I'm optimistic I'll equal or beat last year's price.

I hope that both of us get our wish!

I'm not going to pay $361 to fly to FL, no matter what the holiday, etc., is.
