USAir carry-on

I have a flight on USAir that is serviced by regional jet. I notice that it says the carry-on limit is smaller for these flights, 19 X 15 X 11. I know the bins are smaller, but I wasn't planning on checking my average-size carry-on bag. I've flown on Delta's regional jets and never had this issue with smaller carry-on sizes, unless they've recently changed too. Anyone had this experience before? Is this enforced?

As the Syracuse airport is fairly small in comparison to the hubs that we have to fly into to reach major destinations, we are serviced by many smaller regional jets and standard turbo props. In the case where I fly on either of these two jets, I still pack an normally appropriate sized carry-on and gate check it. There is no cost to doing this.

When you pass security with your appropriate sized carry-on and make it to the gate you'll either find a gate agent walking around near the start of the boarding the plane looking for luggage sized too big for the plane's carry-on size limit or when you present your boarding pass you'll be given a tag that has a detachable part to it. The tag should be wrapped around a handle and the seperator torn off and kept. You tag your bag to end of the jet way or on to the tarmac near the plane. There will be people collecting the gate checked luggage and they will store them under the plane.

When you get to your destination (even if its a connecting destination) when you deboard you'll grab your gate checked luggaged either from the tarmac or at the bottom of the jet way.

NOTE: The size limit is because the plane physically cannot store items within the passenger compartment larger, so it's a warning that items larger then this will need to be gate checked. Regional jets and turbo props have very small overhead compartments (some only have one side if any at all) and space below the seats.
