US/sea world

We are planning a 10 day trip to SoCal next summer we are of course doing 5 days at DL I really want to go down to san diego and go to sea world because I love whales and dolphins...I dont know much about it I seen the thing where you swim with the dolphins is expensive but I also seen where you can pet/feed dolphins does that cost also?...I dont want to pay to get in then have to pay for everything else to do also??.....also there will be 2 adults and 2kids 5&6 are they to young for US? I really wanted to do the WB tour but it says kids under like 7 I think arent allowed.....since were doing 5 days in DL I wasnt real sure about doing other "themparks"....but I was wanting some feed back w my kids ages and stuff thanks!

Ha. Unfortunately that's Sea World!

Swimming with the dolphins is $215 per person but guests must be 10 or older to participate.

The "Dolphin Encounter" where you touch and feed them is $60 per person and for that experience you have to be 48" or taller and with a paying adult. Either experience requires advance reservations.

As far as Universal, I've never been to the one here in California but from what others say, there's a lot of thrill rides that your kids will be too small for, so I'm not sure it's worth the expense for your family. If you want to do something other than Disneyland that your little ones will enjoy, you might want to look into Legoland or the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park.

Well that sucks!! I did look into the zoo and it seemed like you had to pay for a lot of stuff there too....we go to the St.Louis zoo at least once a year and pay like $12 for a pass that lets you do almost everything that you have to pay for inside so I find it hard to pay to get into the zoo esp 30-40 a person then have to pay again to do any kind of special things....ill look into legoland I hadnt really considered it because I havent heard a lot of good things about it....we may just end up doing one of the beach tours thru anaheim 411 and the whale watching tour and spend our extra days sight seeing

Legoland is a lot more expensive than even Sea World I think.

Curious what things were "extra" at the zoo that you were interested in? The bus tour, express bus, and skyfari tram are included with general admission. The behind the scenes tours cost extra but they obviously cost extra at Sea World too. I wouldn't go to any zoo or aquarium and expect to be able to feed and pet the animals for free other than the petting zoo (which the zoo and Safari park each do have).

There is a charge for a tray of fish to feed the dolphins. I was at Seaworld in Orlando this summer and we did it.

It wasn't too horribly expensive. It was 3.00 a tray I believe. So maybe SeaWorld in San Diego would be about the same.

They stopped selling the trays for dolphins here. I thought it was because of the incident that happened in Orlando when the girl was bitten but if you did it just this summer maybe it was for a different reason. They still sell them to feed the sea lions and rays though - 3 fish for $6.00 I believe.

Yea I would understand having to pay for trays of food and even pay a few bucks to pet animals but not a crazy amount....I will look into the Zoo again....has anyone been to the aquarium at Long beach?...that might could be another option?

It's a nice aquarium but not an all-day thing. Maybe a couple of hours.

You can feed the giraffes free at The Living Desert (long way from San Diego, but still ...)
