US/IOA in Dec.

We will be going to Universal on Dec 5-7. How are the crowds usually? Do you think I would need FOTL? I have not been to Universal at Christmas time. Do they add special shows and decorations? TIA

I'm not sure about the crowds but I'm certain someone else here will have insight on that. I do however know that they have Holiday decor plus Grinchmas at IOA and the Macy's Parade at Universal.

Your proposed timing is close to perfect. A Monday and Tuesday the first week in December will not require FOTL. The crowds will be as light as they get. The on-site hotels, however, offer good deals during that time. Decorations will be up but I think either Macy's or the Grinch start around the 12th but I'm sure others will narrow that down. Yes that is a GREAT time to go - in fact excellent! There should be hardly any wait times, most rides will be a walk-on or darn close. They start decorating right after Thanksgiving. However, the large majority of the decorations won't be up until a little nearer Macy's and the Grinch. MotherFletcher's estimate is probably quite close.
