Note: when doing that boot, make sure it's a "hard boot," meaning you've turned off the computer completely, not just "restarted."
Second, there's the option to try starting in "safe mode" and see if you can get in. Safe mode is achieved by hitting F8 as Windows is booting. It loads your computer with minimal drivers. I doubt this is the problem, but it's worth a try. It's the programmers version of checking your oil because your car's on fire and you don't know what else to do. IF this works, I'd export your information, in case you have to reload. Reloading basic Windows components is a pain. Finding all your email addresses is a bigger pain.
Another thing: do you know how to do a system restore? You'll find that option in start>accessories>sytems tools. Follow the Wizard and pick a point in time where you know the OE was working properly. System Restore puts back changes in system settings, NOT system files. In other words, if you changed your screen setting to 800 x 600 from 1024 x 768 today and wrote a letter in Word, then did a system restore back to yesterday, your screen setting would be back to 1024 x 768, but your letter would still be there. Make sense? This only applies if you have Windows XP.
Hope that helps..........OE is a strange bird.
