I had an upper endo yesterday. Last night I started getting jaw pain right under my jaw bone at Te corner area. At first I thought it was swollen glands but it seemed odd. I wasn't really sick and its not in a spot I've ever had before plus it came on over night. Could it be from the procedure either holding my mouth open or the dr leaning on my in some way. It's pretty sore. And no ibuprophen because of procedure.

Could be. Maybe just call the GI's office in the morning and ask if that's "normal". Sounds like the muscle strain pain I get under my jaw in the corner when I throw up. Could have been an aggravated gag reflex from the procedure.

The assistant for the gastroenterologist (scrub tech in our facility) often lifts the jaw during the procedure. Sometimes this is necessary to provide airway support so as to facilitate the breathing by the patient during the procedure. I would try some ice intermittently and Tylenol if not contraindicated. Do you snore when you sleep? Folks that snore often have to have their jaw elevated to facilitate breathing during these procedures. Hope you feel better soon and it would certainly be appropriate to contact your physician if needed.

They also probably put in a mouth bit(?) during the procedure. Something the opens you mouth open while they do the procedure. I have one placed for every endoscopy and I always have jaw pain afterwards. But it does not compare to the biopsy pain for me!

Did yours ever get better on its own? I am having the same thing. It's right at the point of both sides of my jaw. They feel almost bruised.

I've had 2 of those procedures and never had jaw pain...but I sure hope you're feeling better now!

I see those threads at the bottom of the page. Many times I click on one and it's 10 years old. What really gets me is when it looks like a good topic and it's locked.

I just had an upper endoscopy yesterday and my lower jaw feels like someone knuckled me. I can open and close my mouth like normal so I know it's not dislocated. I've been reading that it's pretty common because of the anastesia and the Dr. positioning your head for better breathing. Still not pleasant whatever the cause.
