upgrading to DxDP during free dining...where to stay?

I originally posted this under the dining plan, but thought I might get more ideas here...

We are planning a trip next fall. Hoping for free dining, but going regardless. We are a family of 6. 2 adults, 4 kids (ages at travel - 11, 9, 4, 3). DH refuses to go without DxDP. We do a lot of character/special event meals, so it works out for us.

If there is free dining, are we better off getting a suite at AoA and upgrading 2 levels to the DxDP, or do we get 2 mod rooms and only upgrade one level? When I try to price it out, it appears like the 2 mods at CBR would cost us ~$300 more.

Is there a reason to pick the mods? More room? Better buses? Queens over a table bed?

On the other thread, someone suggested getting 2 mods, make sure we are all on the reservation as DxDP, and then getting the second room as a room only discount? Is that possible? I can't make a reservation for 6 at a mod...

We've never stayed at any of the values, but we loved our stay at CBR, so 2 rooms at CBR would be my choice. CBR will give you a larger room, queen beds, double vanity sinks, and a slide at the main pool. The only negative I see with 2 rooms at CBR is if you want connecting rooms. Connecting rooms can be requested, but are not guaranteed. Some CMs will tell you they are guaranteed if kids out number the adults, but that is not true. Disney will do everything they can to accommodate that request, but connecting rooms are never guaranteed unless 1 adult is out numbered by kids that exceed the occupancy for 1 room (and even then I have read reports of people in that situation not getting connecting rooms as they weren't available). With all of that said, if you want everyone together in the same room, you would probably be better off in an AoA suite as you won't know if you have connecting rooms at CBR until you check in and if they aren't available at that time, you won't get them. As far as getting one room with FD and the other with a room discount, I don't know what that would do. You can't book 6 people in a room at CBR, so not everyone would have FD. The 2nd room with the room discount will not have the DDP unless you pay for it, so everyone in that room will either have to pay for the DDP or not have it. Hopefully others will chime in with opinions. Good luck :).
