We always use Ap's, but a friend's daughter and husband have unused days, 3 I believe. Can she take the passes from her daughter in April, turn them in and buy AP's for the daughter to use in Oct. or does the daughter need to be there? I know they can be used to update to AP's, because we did this a few years ago. My friend thought if she did this on her trip for them, everything would be taken care of for the Oct. trip.

nd buy AP's for the daughter to use in Oct. or does the daughter need to be there? I know they can be used to update to AP's, because we did this a few years ago. My friend thought if she did this on her trip for them, everything would be taken care of for the Oct. trip.

I don't think this is a good idea (and I think the daughter would need to be there, anyway). The only place that one can turn in uunused days for a credit towards an AP is at one of the major park tickets booths or at DD. When you upgrade/buy your pass at the parks or DD, you get the actual pass, not a voucher. That means the 365 day clock would start ticking for the daughter in April, not October. Is it OK with them to lose 6 months or so of admission just to save a few minutes on the October trip??

I also think that the CM will want to see a photo ID for the daughter (but am not sure and of course, your friends could possibly bring one of hers along). I'm assuming the daughter is old enough to need an adult's ticket.

It really doesn't take all that much time to do an upgrade. My advice is to tell your friends to just do it in October.

HTH.

Thank you very much for advice. Will pass it on. Never thought about the fact that the AP would begin the day of the upgrade.:D

I may be wrong, but the original poster seems to want to use multiple tickets with remaining days to upgrade to the AP.

You may only use what is left from ONE ticket to upgrade. Multiple leftover tickets cannot be combined.

Actually my friend's daughter and sil each have a 3 day park hopper. I am sure that those can be updated to APs, correct?

that is correct, leftover days from one PH can be upgraded to an AP.

how much credit do you think Disney would give? Also, what is the break even for an AP? How many usage days versus tickets.

It depends on what type of ticket it originally was and when it was purchased.

For example, if it was a 7-day PHP originally, purchased at the current full price and has 3 days left, the credit would be approximately $136.00

If it was a 4 day PH bought at the current prices the credit would be approximately $144.00.

The best way to figure it out is to take the original purchase price, divide by the total days on the original ticket, then multiply by the number of days remaining. That is the approximate credit you will receive.

The way I remember it form 1998, they give you credit for the amount you paid and did not use. You need to say for at least 8 days to make an AP cost effective. I read that numerous times on these boards.

Thank you for the response, that is interesting I should have had 1 AP for my last two trips. That depresses me! ...... now I must run experiement 626 is near so it is time to hide!
